04/11 Jasmine AMPS 176.4, + 3 1/2 - 178., +6 - 181.8 advice?

Hi all, Today is Jasmine's 1st day back on the juice after a year of being insulin free. I started her dose this morning at 4 am @ 0.5 units. From her numbers after the shot, I am thinking maybe I better be giving her 1 unit?

4 am - 176.4 and given 0.5 units
7:30 am - 178
9 am - feeding
10 am - 181.8


Any advice?

Remember, the first 5 - 7 days are devoted to building the shed. You may not get a huge response to Lantus. Whatever dose you ultimately choose, you need to stick with it. Lantus likes consistency and takes patience.

i just want to say welcome, even though you probably don't want to be here! How long was she on insulin before?

Jasmine has gorgeous eyes! wow!

Hi Jodi,

Whatever dose you pick, stay with it, like Sienne mentioned - Lantus likes consistency. I started with 0.5 units BID with Zoe for 6 days(she had been OTJ for 2 years) to build her shed and get started. I am now upto 1 unit and this is her 3rd day on 1 unit. It is frustrating to start back on insulin, but hang in there, it will get better. :smile:

Thanks Everyone! And thanks Julie. Jasmine was on Caninsulin for the first 6 months when she was first diagnosed and after a huge scare with ketones, I switched her diet to Purina DM canned and her insulin to Lantus and within a month on Lantus she was in remission so 7 months on insulin. I am a huge believer of Lantus insulin in helping diabetic kitty's.
