Butters is home and sleeping now but she did earn herself a trip to the vet today. I was worried about heading into the weekend with a cat that didn't seem interested in eating and was still lethargic. I also thought her mouth was hurting her (I was wrong). And I didn't want to learn how to do sub-Q fluids under pressure.

Her vet was happy to squeeze her in between his other patients because he is awesome. She was there for most of the day, and honestly it felt like I was on the phone with the vet or talking to him in person (outside the clinic..in the midst of our "stay at home order") for most of the day:cat:.
Well, if I ever move to Canada, I shall be using your vet
Well I think that my vet is a good enough reason to make a move to Canada:joyful:. I hope you like winter:p.
Stay safe and healthy out there!
You too, Tanya!:bighug:

Surf safely, kitties:cat:

Wow, your vet does sound great. Ruby has been to various vets probably about a dozen times now since her diagnosis last September, and I still have never ever seen any of these doctors in person, only heard their voices over the phone. It's very strange.

Hope the vet treatments today help. Sending lots of healing vines. :bighug:

My vet comes outside to talk to caregivers too. So much better to have that conversation in person. I hope today perks up Butter. Nice on the BM!

Cycle 13 in all green, looking better at this dose than the previous one. :D In spite of all she's going through. :bighug:

Did you manage to get fluids just in case?
I ordered online. Waiting for delivery. I remembered you telling me to do this ages ago, but I didn't. I've been a wimp about doing subQ at home...like I honestly feel I won't be able to figure it out, or maybe I'll pass out when I see the giant needle I'm supposed to stick into Butters, who is not sweet and compliant, in spite of what the vet and techs kept telling me today.

All of my feelings aside, here is what I ordered:
One 500mL bag Lactated Ringers Solution
One set of IV tubing
Terumo 22g, one inch long, thin wall needles

I hope this is all I need!

Oh I am with you on seeing the vet before the weekend, glad they got you in! There is a weird karmic irony that these issues seem to happen late at night and/or weekend and/or holiday weekends. The ERs are always willing to take you (and your money) at that point but doesn't mean you want to handle it that way! Feel better, Lyla and Butters :bighug:

The vet coming out was amazing but completely unexpected. The clinic is big and busy. I think I just got lucky that he came outside to talk today. He must have had time.
About being at "cycle 13 in all green", I don't really understand how she is still staying green (higher green, though) when she is obviously so unwell. I keep kinda waiting for things to unravel, because that's what happened last time she had an acute attack. Her vet is thinking this is acute on chronic pancreatitis.

That aside, I don't want to misrepresent anything, so I should disclose that I just got her labs emailed to me and her BG score was 6.7:cool:. I feel like we have to start the cycle count over now.

But that's more equivalent to what's on a pet meter. Green by human meter. And I wouldn't count such a stress induced number even if it was on a human meter.

Amy's Trixie went OTJ after a really bad episode of p'titls, and she was on a higher dose. Unfortunately the spreadsheet is no longer around so I can't show it to you.

As you know I gave them to my Perry, it was very easy , he would just lay there and not move, hopefully Butters will not give you too much trouble.
I can't remember the size I used but my vet would give me longer and shorter ones.
The longer ones made the fluids come out faster . If I used the shorter ones they showed me to press down in the bag of fluids to make it flow after .
With the longer ones I would do the same thing, took less then 2 minutes

You always insert the needle with the side that is pointing up into the skin.
I would put a towel down on the kitchen table and hang the fluids on the wall with one of those hooks made by Command , white ones
Hang it up high
I would rest by hand on the syringe on Perry's scruff and with the other hand when I was done just turn it off.
I would always put a new syringe on so it would be ready to go next time.
You could warm the fluids up on warm water , lay it in a pan so it's not that cold
Luke warm.
Perry didn't mind if I didn't warm it up though
He would even turn on his side while I did it and purred
Maybe give Butters a treat while doing it if she gives you trouble
If you have someone to help you they can comfort her while you insert the syringe
and you can keep an eye on the bag.
Like Tanya said we can help you
