When Rico was born, 15 years ago, his mum didn't have any strength left to clean him after three more babies she'd already had... So, I put on my surgical gloves, used gauzes and distilled water to remove the placenta and help him get his first breath... He's been my baby ever since! The first time he was diagnosed with diabetes I was in a state of panic and depression, especially after local vets told me the situation was irreversible and I would have to get used to the idea of his passing away soon.
THEN, I found this group and our lives changed! I have to admit that it was exhausting and at times seemed humanly impossible to cope with Rico's needs, home, family and career - not saying anything about my needs which were totally put aside for the first six months! But I never doubted any instruction given to me and followed every single advice until my baby did it! He was in remission for almost a year until a vet - misreading the symptoms of gingivitis for stomatitis - gave him a large dose of steroids. So, I said, OK, this is the end of it. We'll just have to live with insulin for as long as possible...
And here we are, three months later that this little fighter, managed a 2nd remission, with the help of @Wendy&Neko , @Bandit's Mom & @tiffmaxee !!! A THANK YOU is too little to show you my appreciation and gratefulness! You've been there, guiding and encouraging me, every step of the way!
I'd also like to say thank you to all those who attended our "OTJ Party" and send beautiful wishes to my Rico!
On his behalf, miaow-kisses to @Marje and Gracie , @Diane Tyler's Mom GA , @Tim & Pookey , @Staci & Ivy , @Helen + Noogi , @Kobe (Dean and Lesley) MO , @Niko's Mom , @Marielle , @Kat & Trixie , @Madeline528 , @bluesunshine , @Evey & @wade
