good morning! i saw your last post last night about the dog food - maybe you could talk with your mom about how the dogs can be fed and shadow still kept from getting into the dog crunchies. as long as he's sneaking crunchies, i don't think you're going to be able to get him regulated. that might explain why he was getting such a high dose before. it's sorta like a diabetic person who can't resist downing a chocolate bar every day. nom nom nom

don't know what is added to dry food to make it so yummy to cats, but we jokingly call it "kitty crack." if it's around, a cat will eat it - doesn't matter if it's for cats or dogs to some cats!!! little hoovers!!! :lol:

no worries on not posting right away - that doesn't matter at all. it'll be great if you can get that mid-cycle test in, although he may take as much as 24 hours to clear the crunchie's carbs out of his system. i'm glad to know that was in the picture, because that explains a lot. it's like one more piece in the jigsaw puzzle - we'll keep working til we've got a clearer picture of what's going on - then i suspect we'll really see some progress with shadow.

Shadow had some nice yellow numbers last night which was great to see. Ditto what Julie said about the kibble -- that's a big no-no, for the rest of his life. You're in the right place to get Shadow on track, but it does take time. Hang in there!

Good catch on finding out that Shadow has been eating the dog's food.

I also have high hopes for Shadow once he can't get any more of that bad dog kibble.

I think that explains a lot. Why he is getting some response to the insulin, but his numbers are higher because of the kibble he's been stealing.

Yeah they saw him try getting in it today so they put it up. I will have to start putting it up when the dogs are outside, and that will atleast keep him out of it during the day.

I couldn't get any mid-cycle tests in today, but I will probably be able to get some in tonight.

He did! It's the first time seeing yellow so that puts a little bit more confidence in this for me. I am going to start keeping a closer eye on him as well and make sure he isn't doing stuff he shouldn't be. I still haven't gotten a ketone test, it's hard to catch him in the act! But I am hanging in fine I think, just some scheduling issues.

I've never seen him actually eat it before, but I have saw him smelling it. I have high hopes for him as well and hope his numbers continue to go down. Hopefully we start seeing a lot more yellow.

PMPS = 490 Will feed him and give him his shot now and test at +4 and +6 (hopefully if i can stay awake!)

Binks is a confirmed "Contrabandanista"...a total kibble thief!

I feed one of my non-diabetic cats kibble (haven't successfully transitioned her to wet food yet) :sad: ,
but it's in a room Binks can't get into.

best of luck transitioning her to wet food! I think I will just put up the dog food during the day to minimize shadow's chance of getting into it.

Tested at +4 and he's 310. Still not very good, but I think his numbers are improving! I'm going to test him again at +5. He's not hungry so I'm not going to feed him now.

Ugh... I caught him in the dog food. Tomorrow I need to find a spot to put it. I'm not going to be surprised if +5's numbers are higher.

Tested at +5 and he was 304. It's 2AM so I'm going to bed. Tomorrow I will try getting mid-cycle tests during the day. Thanks!

Edit: Duty calls so I'm still up.. Will probably be up a while now so am going to try getting a +8 as well. +6 was 328
