Hello. It has been awhile since I have been on the boards. I am wondering when it is appropriate for an increase and why my cat's numbers are all over the map. He started to get some nice numbers in blue for little bit now I am getting numbers +8 or +10 on some days that are the same as the AMPS and the PMPS. It is like the Lantus had no effect. He is on Wellness canned and Friskies special diet turkey over night with an automatic feeder. Ocassionally some other food like FF Chicken and Beef Gourmet but his main diet is the Wellness. Occassionally I sneak in a few morsels of the EVO dry low carb..not more than 10 pieces or so. Any thoughts? My main concern is after 5 months on Lantus I am seeing very little consistent change and now he is actually getting more numbers in the 400's. PS: i realize i should be getting overnight readings but waking up in the middle of the night just won't work for me.

Hi Sue, good to see you!

When is the next time you'll be able to do a curve? There's not much data here to be able to see what's going on (and nothing from the early part of any cycles). If I had to guess, I would say that the 400's might be caused by Ruben going low and bouncing, and because yesterday it looks like it was a pretty fast/high increase.

How long after PMPS do you go to bed? Right away? Even if you can get a +2 or +3 at night that can give us a ton of information, you don't necessarily have to get up in the middle of the night.

Sorry I can't help more, but if you can grab some more data then I'll be glad to take another look.

Thanks for the posting. I usually do the shots at 9am and 9pm ..it works well for scheduling purposes. I can try to go back to 7:30 or 8am and then get another read at 10:30pm or so...that could help. I guess what I am wondering is why on some days does it look like the Lantus at +8 or +10 looks like it has no effect. Anything in the 400's is scary to me ..it is not the direction i want to be going in.

it probably looks like the Lantus had no effect because Ruben is nadiring earlier. By not testing until late in the cycle, you're missing the action and the numbers are already on their way back up.

Hi Sue,
I have one question - I was looking at your ss and noticed that every once in awhile, you changed one shot, then went back to the old amount on the next shot.
Also, after 1/24/10, there is no dose info, so it's hard to say if you should give more or less of a dose.
One other thing, you may want to stop the dry kibbles because the dry is the cause of high numbers for some kitties, yes, even just a few little pieces. You may be better off giving higher carb wet food as a treat than any kind of dry food.
I steam a chicken breast then dice it into little cubes that I freeze. I take out a few to keep in the frig as snacks for Shadoe. I am sure others can offer some good ideas for snacks to replace any dry kibbles.

I try to get a test just before I am going to bed because many kitties go lower over nite and so their amps is high and they don't know why. If you looked at my ss, you would see that there are some days where the am numbers are way different from the pm numbers, but we need as many as we can to be able to see what's happening. During the week, I can't test at all because I am at work, but I make up for it in the pm and on weekends.
The more data you can get, the better everyone can see how Ruben is reacting.

If you are able to update your spreadsheet, it may be easier for others to comment and suggest what you can do.

thanks for your posting. the dosing has been the same: 2.5 with the exception of maybe a day or two when he dipped low...but 99% of the time it is 2.5..i just updated the spreadsheet and didn't get a chance to fill in the dosing info...sorry.
normally his nadir is between 8 and 10 hours...could be happening earlier..but why? will try to test earlier in the day. not a problem since i am home most of the time.
