Hi everyone,

We've had a bit of a complicated road so far. I've received loads of help so far and am so so grateful.

Here is my original story/ welcome thread:

And here is one figuring out lantus that also ended at the ER vet with some other diagnosable problems and a recommendation to stop lantus for now and do a food trial; to revaluate in 10 days (6 days left now):

My question: His BG has been around the 13 mark today and yesterday. He just got his appetite back yesterday, thank god. My question is, how long do you do a food trial to see if it is effective? And at what range for the BG should I stop the trial and approach the vet about insulin again? Are there treats that diabetic cats can have? He has been on friskies food so far as he refuses the fancy feast.

I have been trying to keep an eye on keytones, I haven't found him peeing yet today but will keep on that as I can.

I can only help with the treats, any freeze dried treats are ok to give
you can just Google freeze dried treats for cats
such as
https://www.chewy.com/purebites-chi...MIxey2lbrG7wIVFOWzCh0IdQDfEAQYASABEgKiA_D_BwE

https://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/cat/treats-snacks/

Some members will buy the exact same treats for dogs, to save money, they just break them up into smaller pieces . you can buy a small bag for cats and see if they like them, then buy the bigger bags for dogs

Also up top right hand side there is a search area you can just type in freeze dried treats and hit search
and you will see posts that have to do with freeze dried treats that members posted.
Just go thru some of the and they will say what they use

Hi Charlene,
That is great Sir Thomas is starting to eat again!
If you are 4 days into a food trial (and I’m sure you were not feeding dry food in the week before that....is that correct?) you would expect to see a drop in numbers by now if it was going to happen.
I think he needs to go back on insulin now. Not wait another 6 days.

I am concerned you note in the SS that you say he seems more lethargic this morning and his back legs are weaker. When did you last test for ketones?

Because he dropped down to 3.8 (68) after 20 hours on 0.5 U on 3/23, I think I would start at 0.25 U twice a day and see how that goes..
I will tag @Marje and Gracie to see what she thinks.

If you want to be cautious, you can start at 0.25u twice daily but if you can test and feed more than you are now, I’d suggest 0.5u twice a day. You want to be sure you never miss a preshot.

I’m glad he’s better.
