Panzer's #s have been way high for his usual cycles. Yesterday AMPS my dumb butt did a fur shot. He has had 2 successfull shots today. Is he maybe bouncing from the fur shot? Or could the amoxicillin be affecting his #s? I started him on amoxicillin on Wednesday night & he will be on it for 3wks. We go back to the vet on May 10th to do a repeat full panel bloodwork. His Urine Culture reads this: FirsTract Urine Culture/ source urine/ collection method Cystocentesis/ FirsTract Culture with ID & susceptibility in progress///ANTECH FIRSTract rapid Culture analysis detected suspicious patterns in this sample. This could represent non-biological particles, fastidious pathogens, residual antimicrobial activity or non-urinary tract contaminates. Extended incubation is required. Preliminary report should be available within 36hrs. Antech FIRSTract is a state of the art, patented light scattering technology capable of detecting bacterial growth within hours, not days. FIRSTract demonstrates excellent performance with high sensitivity & specificity in comparison to a standard Urine Culture.
ENTEROCOCCUS SENSITIVITIES: AMPICILLIN S
AMOXICILLIN S
AZITHROMYCIN N
CHLORAMPHENICOL I
CLARITHROMYCIN R
DOXYCYCLINE S
ENROFLOXACIN R
ERYTHROMYCIN N
Gentamicin (High Conc) S
Streptomycin (High Conc) S
Aminoglycosides, when used alone, are ineffective against enterococci. Combining an aminoglycoside with ampicillin or amoxicillin can be effective if this combination is synergistic. Resistance to high concentrations of gentamicin or streptomycin indicates that these combinations are NOT synergistic & should not be used. Erythromycin & azithromycin are not recommended for treatment of lower urinary tract entrococcal infections, regardless of the sensitivity result. Clarithromycin is suitable for lower urinary tract infections. Cephalosporins (all classes) & potentiated sulfonamides are not tested because they are always ineffective against Enterococci. Clavamox offers no treatment advantages over amoxicillin or ampicillin for enterococcal infections.
