Yesterday's return to the greens

Last night's PM cycle was a great one for the Chicken Whisperer, with a long-awaited return to the greens. However I'm not sure if she was green because she didn't eat much that cycle, or if she didn't eat much because she was green. Chicken, egg, etc.

She was asking for food at breakfast time but clearly I failed to read her mind about what flavour she wanted, because she got three offers and didn't want any of them - just kind of nibbled and licked and then did puppy dog eyes at me to see what was next on the menu. Oh well, she'll eat them if she's hungry...

Ivana is currently outside laying in the sun underneath Chardy's empty hutch :(, I wonder if that might be contributing to her not eating as much?

Forgot to add: I'm waiting for her to wee so I can check her urine glucose for the renal threshold, and whatever else my sticks will tell me - they measure ten things, very efficient.

Don't panic if you get a positive for leucocytes its likely to be a false positive, its not reliable for feline urine.

Thankyou for the warning!

We've just had our first drop on this dose, yay! Gave 2t HC. Honestly though, she hasn't eaten much since Chardy died - I'm wondering if that's the reason for the low, not the actual insulin doing it's thing.

So sweet that she got attached to Chardy, hope her apy picks up.

Do I remember you noting awhile back, that when Ivana spent !more time in good numbers she didn't eat as much? Or am I just imagining that?

It's likely a combination of both, I would think, she's been having some lovely cycles recently so it's not completely out of the blue, anti jinx.:D

Somehow I don't think she'll be giving you urine glucose today.;)
Correct! I've just spent the past few minutes with some strips, some wee and a stopwatch. Glucose -ve, ketones -ve, protein between none and the first square. Not sure what else I should be testing for, those were just the ones that sounded familiar.

Hey @Wendy&Neko, re urine testing for glucose to check the renal threshold - I'd planned last night to do it this morning, as she'd been in flat blues for a while and I wanted to see if her being at that level was above or below her threshold. Because she's now been in greens for 12-ish hours, does that mean that to test her level at blues I should have done it while she's actually in blue? Ie. does the urine glucose change to reflect the current numbers pretty much as soon as they change?

Hope her appy picks up...I so worry about that probably more than anything else. We have to remember that sometimes us humans don't eat as much day to day either. Stay on the surf board now Ivana and eat your fuds please.

I had to hand-feed her the HC at +5. I'm glad we're not going away for the easter long weekend, I just hope she eats enough for us to go out a couple of times as we've planned.

The Precious One has decided she will once again only eat out of my hand. Sigh. At least she's eating though. Her +2 will be interesting seeing she only finished eating half of her dinner at +1.75!

On a related note, my hand stinks of red salmon mixed with miralax, SEB and nooch :arghh:

Chardy is the fifth chicken we've had pass away in the last couple of years, and Ivana has never shown interest in any of them except her. They had never even met before Chardy started coming inside just recently. She must have been a very special hen for Ivana to bond with her so quickly and strongly.

The bond that animals make is so special and such perfect love.
