He ate maybe a tablespoon of food PS - that's it. He has eaten nothing else.

I am taking him to the vet this afternoon and going to get him the Convinea Shot. It it the last ditch effort. If I can't get him to eat - he has given up (IMO).

Vetty vines to Gizmo! I hope the convenia shot helps. Please eat, Gizmo. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good luck today. And, please and imo real caution re convenia. Seen too many kitties have severe adverse effects especially with underlying conditions. I’m not trying to be an alarmist, Might be fine but with his meds and underlying conditions, I have a very wary feeling about convenia.

Lizzie, just a thot .... could you try the SEB over the weekend when you have more time ? I don’t know how you do all you do for Giz and work full time too so giving SEB ( with its wait period after giving) is not possible weekdays . But a trial run over the weekend when time is not so much a factor ? Good article on Foodfurlife on nausea/all things GI ... Elmo has been off his food and I am trying the suggestions given in these articles ( a bout of vomiting and then diarrhea has hit my furry bunch).... many prayers to you as you go to vet and get some direction for Gizmo . :bighug::bighug::bighug:

He got MMR (marshmallow root is similar in properties to SEB) yesterday AM/PM and this morning. I was giving every AM/PM PS meals but stopped when I started giving him the AB and then the nausea meds because, like SEB, you are not suppose to give meds within 2 hours of MMR due to absorption related issues.

Don't have many options left. With him not eating and my work schedule I don't know what else to do. If this is an infection and he can't tolerate the oral AB's (only tried one but if he wont eat I doubt he would tolerate any of the others well) - I don't have other options.

He is very hungry but just wont eat. Every time I prepare his food or his feeder turns he will run to it but only sniff and lick (maybe) and then walk away.

Again, I am out of ideas and tried every trick in my bag but will entertain all suggestions.

Did you try zofran, cerenia ? appy stimulant? When my civvie stopped eating never figured out why. Vet suggested AD recovery food. I mixed with regular food and she started eating. Might be worth a try.

Yes. Been giving Ondan 2x/day for what seems like 3(?) weeks, Cerenia 1x/day (4mg-6mg). 1/4 to 1/2 Mirtz (not every day but he got 1/2 yesterday and 1/4 this morning).

I have AD and tried mixing it with is food Wednesday - little to no improvement.

Only thing I have NOT tried is the Fancy Feast Crack - but with his phos already high - it really isn't an option as any higher phos levels can (and probably would) cause nausea (double edge sword). Though I do now have phos binder but not sure if that is enough to reduce the phos in the FF to make it less risky to try. Trust me - this is on the table as an option. I don't know how phos binder works so not sure if it is even an option to try.

I have tried at least five different foods over the past 3 days. Some new, some old. The only thing he will eat with any consistency is the Young Again and that being dry and he is already dehydrated I can't give any more than what he is getting (1 tablespoon per cycle). He will NOT eat wet - even with YA crumbled on top (or any topper for that matter).

Can't give him any more fluids because we don't know if his heart can take it (no test on heart enzyme yet, it was on our future plan to get).

Again, I am out of my bag of ticks.

Has ground bone. I imagine it has a high phos level. Also doesn't address the dehydration issue. He will eat the YA kibbles but needs the moisture from wet food.

I know it is a lot to balance, but if he will eat YA, he should eat that, you can supplement fluids in small amounts as required. Do you have a way to monitor hydration at home so you know if it is getting better / worse?

PMPS=283

History:
AMPS=162, +2=159 (Ket=0.2), +10=136

Got Convenia, B12 and Cerenia shots. Tech didn't think he was a dehydrated as the last visit (barely is what she said). Weight is exactly the same (though I don't know how - lol, he even poo'd in the carrier on the way up).

Not sure if it was the Cerenia shot (how quick do they work?), the excitement of the vet visit, stress or the new food but he ate 28 grams of food for his PS meal (mixed with MMR). Will give him is BP meds after the +2 test (though he probably won't need a test given his PS #).

Going to do fluids (40-50?-not sure of the measurement) 2x/week. We are giving Tuesday PM and Saturday mid-day unless he needs more - but vet said NO MORE than every-other-day @ 40-50 until we can get the heart enzyme test.

Going on Friday next week for bw to check potassium, phos and anemia.

Oh Lizzie, my heart aches for you. I hope the shots helped. Just curious as why you choose Convenia? Was it so that you bypassed the stomach?
Yes. I felt it was kinda my last hope. I really don't know if there was another option other than hospitalizing and IV AB but even then he will NOT eat at the vet, never has unless I went there and force fed him. I know it is controversial but I really didn't know what else to do. I felt like we were on a downward spiral and headed for a crash. Especially some of the behavior I saw this morning. I can still give MMR or Zantac without the waiting if needed.

I am not sure if people realize how difficult it is and working full time on top of juggling what can be given and when. I have been averaging 5 hours of sleep per night and woke up this morning throwing up from the stress.

Oh, Lizzie, no judgment here. I am losing sleep and don't have to report to a 9-5 job. My hat goes off to you and all the peeps that are working outside of the home. At least with me taking care of my mom full time, I can do what is necessary with the critters during the day.

Hang in there sweetie. I was just trying to put myself in your shoes and I was pretty sure I could understand your reasoning with the Convenia. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Lizzie , I am thrilled he liked the duck and praying he continues to chow down :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Also , as crazy as it sounds I keep both size cans on hand .. not sure if they taste a bit different but Mr Elmo seems to think so ;) so there u go :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I really, really, really hope convenia does the trick. I'm glad he ate when he came home. I'm so sorry things are so stressful right now. You are the best bean for Gizmo and you're doing an excellent job with him. I appreciate how much you're juggling and I honestly don't know how you do it, my hat is off to you! TGIF, I hope Gizmo makes a turn for the better and you can relax a bit and have a pleasant weekend. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tons and tons of healing and appy vines to Gizmo, come on, Gizmo, you got this!

Well, he licked the +2.5 bowl clean :cat:.

Thank you. :bighug::bighug: I just had a mini melt down today.

Just finished Chinese food for dinner and heading to bed. He has eaten more in the past 3 hours than he has during any one cycle for about 4 days. His numbers are high so don't have to worry about that, gave him his BP meds so I am off to bed, watch a little tv and read a bit and hope for 6-7 hours of sleep .

Recharge and hit it again tomorrow with a positive attitude and a spring in my step.

Nity nite! Get some good sleep

I wonder if he needs more of the antinausea meds. He sounds still nauseous. I can't tell how many mg of ondansetron he's getting. I have seen dosing for the oral can be as much as 1 mg/kg of cat up to 3 times a day. Cerenia oral can be up to 1 mg/lb of cat. How much does Gizmo weigh? Dosing might be worth a conversation wtih the vet.

Sending vines. :bighug:

Again, I am out of my bag of tricks.

In this situation, I recommend you give Gizmo whatever he will eat, be it young again, fancy feast, sirloin or mouse. Dried food is all he'll eat? Give it to him. After all, if he won't eat the wet food anyway, that won't help his dehydration one little bit.

I’d also be giving the ondansetron 3x a day.

For a p level of 5.4, a middle of the road dose is 14 mg AlOH/lb of body weight mixed in food throughout the day.

I’m really glad he ate!

❤️Lizzie, am very :bighug::bighug::bighug: that Gizmo ate for you after home from vetty visit. Vines for all to be happy appy here on in.

My apologies both for not replying sooner today and if my worries about that antibiotic added to your stresses, all of which I understand, having been through these crises , too, intensely so and go through even now.

Yesterday (Friday) was one of those days for me, too, with short notice call to vet to bring Azalea in, by which I had to close the business doors early and with exhaustion after days of long hours and nights on end of assist feeding to supplement azalea’s waning appetite. And because of her conditions and, Azalea being Azalea, there are a lot of traditional options that simply can’t be done....all of which goes to understanding all too well the stresses of what we go through trying to find ways, whatever they are, that help our kitties through crisis/crises.

Crossing paws here and sending heaps of feel better vines for both you and your sweet Gizmo for the days and years ahead. You are a wonderful bean for your Gizmo. Hope you get some rest this weekend, too. ❤️❤️❤️
