Hey Everyone!

It's been a hot minute since I visited, but life's been hectic and unkind. Without going into great detail, I lost my Dad in late January and have been struggling with Sly and his new dilemma.

Our SS is not updated, and I haven't had time to do it . But will try to get in there soon. We're at 1 unit of Semglee (generic glargine) BID. Numbers are 95 low end / 120 high end.

Toward the end of summer last year Sly got real close to remission , down to half a unit, and then he started having mouth issues. What we thought was some gingivitis was just diagnosed as stomatitis and he's scheduled for a full dental extraction this coming Wednesday. It's costing me a pretty penny, but I'm having it done with a board certified dentist so I know he'll be monitored etc during the procedure. The doctor is the best on L.I. Dr. Dan Carmichael.

The specialist is amazing and I have total confidence that his surgery will go well, but I'm a little apprehensive about Zorbium, which is transdermal bupe that lasts 4 days. Online just gives horror stories, similar to what happened when Convenia was still fairly new, and people were looking for something to blame for their cats deaths...

I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with Zorbium, and if they recommend it or not. I'm nervous about oral meds after the surgery, because doing it now is trying and affecting our relationship already.

Thank you in advance for any insight, and I hope you and your sugar babies are all doing ok .

Just cause I was curious about how many hot minutes it was, I looked back 02/28 Sly AMPS 111 +2 82, +8 97 Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about your Dad. :bighug:. That can definitely put ones life in a spin.

Good luck with the dental this coming Wednesday. It'll take him a little while to heal, but he'll feel so much better afterwards. I've no experience with Zorbium, I always gave bupe by mouth. You might want to add "Zorbium ?" to the subject line, and maybe even add a post to Feline Health asking specifically about it. I have heard of a couple people giving transdermal bupe, but don't know if it was long lasting.

I already emailed the specialist and told him I do not want him to have Zorbium. Even though he resists, I have been doing gabapentin in a syringe just to help take the edge off and he eats, because waiting for the appointment was almost a month and his eating has been terrible.

I am confident that I can do bupe by mouth because the dose is small and from what I understand you just need to get it in the mouth mucosa.

I'll be more comfortable controlling the dose instead of a 4 day treatment. There's not enough peer studies for me to feel safe about him having a topical pain killer that takes 4 days to work through his body. It was only approved 3 years ago.

I hope the extractions work because he's miserable and this really came on fast and furious.

Oh I am just seeing this now, and I am so sorry about your Dad. I don't have good things to say about the Zorbium so I am happy you didn't use it. It is now April, so I guess Sly had his teeth out. Both of my mom's rescues had stomatitis, and have fully recovered, and are back to eating dry food even! I hope Sly has a similar experience. Sending you much love and many hugs, and keeping you and of course Sly in my prayers :bighug::bighug:
