03/17 Chippy's 1st lime green - I'm a bit freaked out

Good evening!

Chippy just hit his first lime green (67 on the AT) at +3 after his pm shot tonight. I may have overreacted by immediately giving him some 13% carb food and a tiny bit of kibble. Tested him at +4 and he's back at 96. Could that be just the food? He had a bit of excitement today when our new vet came over to meet him, so that may be contributing to his wild swing.

Congrats on the reduction! :-)

Next time avoid the kibble. Can you test again at +5 without feeding to see if he stays up without food? The last he ate was at +3?

Next time avoid the kibble
Yes, I'm afraid I panicked. I don't handle the low numbers well. :) Fortunately, it was only about a teaspoon+/-, but I'm amazed at the effect it seems to have had, and will avoid it in the future unless it's a true emergency!
I gave him a bit more LC/ MC wet food mixed together after his +4 test, so won't be able to get a food-free test for a while. If I can stay awake, I'll try to test at +6. He has very sensibly gone to bed. :)

We have all panicked at low numbers, so it's perfectly fine. Better to reach for HC canned and even honey/karo/syrup rather than kibble. :-)
Once they rise above 68, you can switch to LC. No need to feed higher carbs.

Get a +5. If he's significantly higher, you can call it a night!

Sorry I missed your final post. I was going to do one more test before bed, but Chippy had gone off into the bedroom, and I couldn't test him without waking my husband, so instead did the low tech purr test - I give him a few pets, he wakes up and gives me a few purrs (Chip, not my husband.) I did that a few more times overnight, and he seemed fine each time. :)

Thank you! :)

I'm a bit worried because of his high amps number today, but am hoping that's a side affect of yesterday's stresses (vet visit, lime green number, etc.) and that he'll settle into the new dose.
