Buddy and I have been treading water the past week so I haven't posted a new thread for a bit.

His numbers have been staying steady so we're starting an OTJ trial today :D

He still has the annoyingly high morning numbers, but the numbers aren't trending up in general. I just have to accept that he is not going to be an all green cat.

We did get a nice AMBG number this morning. I tried a new thing last night. I had frozen some of his absolute fave - the Wellness Core 95 Turkey - and left it open in the auto feeder in the bedroom all night. Maybe he started smelling it or maybe it's just because he looves this food, but he ate without hesitation when I offered it to him at 7:15am. Buddy's numbers come down pretty quick after food. It looks like about 90 minutes after eating usually. We'll try this technique again tonight and see if it sticks.

I'm shifting my AMBG times to be at 9am now with Daylight saving so everything should be unchanged time wise for Buddy.

Here's the little troublemaker having a snooze last night. Why is it so cute when you can see the tongue sticking out?!

He's sooo adorable. There's just something about the little pink tongue sticking out..everyone must love it when it gets its own day of the week!

Yes, it's been a surprisingly difficult thing to get him to eat before the AMBG. Very strange because usually it's such a struggle to keep his demanding tummy satisfied during the day. He just likes being different I guess. He also goes a mile a minute when his blood sugar is high in the mornings. Where I think normally people report their kitties being lethargic when numbers are high. When Buddy starts getting sleepy I know his bg is dropping.

Yup just one strong white whisker sticking out. It's like it belongs to a different cat. His other whiskers are thin and short. This white one is reaching for the sky!

I don't remember if anyone gave you the instructions for an OTJ trial, so here they are.

Instructions for starting the OTJ trial
Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!
