I’m at the hospital and need to make a decision.
His ketones measured now 1.1. For the vet in the morning 1.8

ahe said it’s up to me if to leave him for another night or take him home. I’m in two minds about it. Any suggestions?

he’s not so angry anymore. He was purring very strongly when I caressed hi. I’m just wondering if he hasn’t gone into despair about being here. On the other hand I don’t want to take him home too quickly and have the ketones high up again. many thoughts ?

It is up to you. How do you think he is doing.?
is he eating OK?
What are his BGs?
Are the vets happy with his electrolytes and ph balance in the blood?
Are you confident you can continue with the Sub Q fluids at home?
I reckon it would be about 4 pm there now…it might be worth leaving him there til the morning to get that extra IV fluids and you pick him up bright and early tomorrow?
If you are unsure, I would err on the side of caution if you can afford it.
I’m heading off to bed..midnight here.
Once you get him home we will help you with his recovery. Don’t forget to get some antinausea medications and appetite stimulant medications.:)

He’s eating more. Not full amount but he has more appetite

thank you Bron. I was thinking exactly as you said. Until tomorrow morning for another night with fluids.

Yes it’s up to me. She said that under 2 ketones they can release him. But she’s also fine if I decided to leave another night.

I feel Guilt leaving him here. But I’m also afraid of taking him back home and ketones rising again.
Glucose went down to 162 (9) with pet meter !
He looks more alert. Walking around and smelling the place.
He’s eating ok. She said more appetite. I fed him now a bit too.
Of another night here means I can start with SQ after a day of break at home perhaps it’s best.

I left Fistuk at the hospital for another night. I thought that it's best that if he's already there that he^ll get more fluids and the ketones will go down more.

He was purring when he saw me. Was more relaxed. But later began growling again.

I^ve update the SS and it includes the glucose measures the hospital took, the ketones measures and the lab results (@Wendy&Neko ).
There are few values that I don't know what they mean and if they`re noted in the SS:
Harnstoff translates to CO (NH2) or carbamide
Osmolatität translates to osmolality

You are doing what is best for your baby!! I hope he is ok.

Did they only give the rapid acting insulin the once? We call it R - it's either Novolin R or Humulin R here, so just R for short. If so, that's a good thing cause it seems he came down to some mid 100's with just the 4 units of Lantus. It also says the 1 unit is too high a dose of R. We try to limit the amount a cat drops with using R to 100 points or less, otherwise the fast drops set off a bounce - which in turn means more high numbers which you are trying to avoid. The goal of R is to take the numbers down enough that the Lantus can do a better job. Think of it as a nudge in numbers, not a hammer.

Do you know if the numbers from the vet hospital are from a pet meter or human meter?

Thanks, Wendy. It’s good to understand what the short insulin is and how it works.

yes it’s a pet meter. I mentioned that in the SS so it’s clear that they use the AT.
I asked about giving R at home if his numbers spikes again but she said no bc when they do that they monitor the electrolytes at the same time.

I’m looking if forward to taking him today and will need to see what’s the next step with dosing for him
