Re: 03/05 Whiskers rushed to U of M E/R
Thank you all so very much. Your prayers and support mean so much, and also a very hugh thank you to the LLEF for fundraising for us :YMHUG: o

:YMHUG: .
The IM vet at the U of M just called and this is what they know. Whiskers diabetes may be in remission. She was very dehidrated when we got her there last night her BUN reading was to high to get a value (above 140), In January 2011 it was 39. This morning her BUN was 129, still quite high but it has come down some, which is good. Her kidney values will be continued to be monitored over the next 24 hours. Kidney values can go up from kidney damage or dehidration, if it is from dehidration they will come down. We will have to wait and see.
Her diabetes may have been controlled to well, in essance overtreating with Trilostane (although we were told this should have taken 6-8 weeks) causing not enought cortisone to be produced. In effect causing the reverse condition of addisons disease, which I think the IM vet said was managable (lowing the Trilostane doseage?)
Pancreatitis flare is another possiblity. She is being treated with lots of IV fluids, pain med. Buprenorphine, electolytes (potassium was quite low again) and anti nausea med Cerenia. She is being given nutrition thru a nasal tube. There was no mention of an etube.
The worst possible case is that the tumor is spreading to her kidney and elsewhere. The adrenal tumor is very near a blood vessel to the kidney. The tumor appears to have increased in size by 1/2 centimeter, but they did a chest scan and it doesn't show speading to the chest.
Dr. Furrow is the IM vet treating her today as her regular IM vet is not in this weekend. They will try to notify him. Dr. Furrow said that overall she seems a little bit better and is stable, but has a long ways to go. She will need to keep her for another 24 hours at least. As for additional testing other than what has already been done, she feels Whiskers has been thru so much testing in the last couple months, the most important thing is to get that Kidney value (BUN) to continue to come down, and of course hoping the tumor has not spread.
Thank all again so much, your support is truely amazing, and helps so very much.
I need to put a cold pack on my eyes, I have occular ezcema which flairs when I'm stressed, my eyes get really red and swollen and itchy. Rubbing makes it worse, but since they itch....Anyway need to take some more benadril. I'll post anything else as soon as I know.
They originally estimated costs of $1200.00 to get her thru the night, they have revised that to about $800.00, add another $500.00 for the next 24 hours, so by tomorrow morning at least $1300.00. So much. It all is so overwhelming. And scary.
Also praying for Mike and Buddy, Claudia and Rocket, MJ and Butthead, and any other kitties in need as well as their beans.
