Re: 03/05 Frankie AMPS: 381

Morning Dan,
My Lucian was the same way, although he's pretty good now without it, it did take about 6 weeks.

I've heard, giving the shot in the scruff isn't the ideal spot, because it doesn't absorb as well. I've always given it in the shoulder area, between the blades, across the shoulders, always varying the spot. He rarely even flinches, like he doesn't usually notice. Just a thought. :-D

You're doing great! :thumbup

She is long haired right? The easiest way to see skin on a long to medium haired cat is to lift the skin by a little tuft of the hair and then blow gently that will expose skin so you can see where you are shooting. I've gotten really good at shooting tricks as so far all 4 of mine have been long haired..Not sure I would know what to do with a short-haired diabetic cat.

I read that as well, but I'm having trouble seeing how to do that while she is eating. Once I have her in my lap later, I'll feel around there to see what kind of skin she has there... I also read that the area between the leg an abdomen are good, but again, I can't see how I could get in there with out being worried about having a needle in my hand and crawling on the floor.

She is kind of short haired... but I still have felt a miss before I hit the plunger. Mollie has long thick hair.

Re: 03/05 Frankie AMPS: 381

The only time I have been able to use the side was with my Musette because she was a princess that refused to eat on the floor, she had to have her table. She would jump up on the nightstand next to the bed to eat, and I would just sit on the bed next to her and shoot. Tried that once with Autumn and was thankful she came to me declawed or I would have needed a tranfusion. :o

For some reason that I have yet to figure out some syringes you just don't feel as well as others when pushing the plunger. The Relions that I use I can usually feel the push, but I've used a couple other brands that even when Autumn was up there in dose it didn't feel like the plunger moved but her numbers said it did. confused_cat

Maxwell is probably the easiest fur wise so far that I have had to shot and of course he was only on the juice for two weeks. He is long-haired but it is that single long flowing coat as opposed to Muse and Musette who were both Himalayans and Autumn who is just plushy. Her hair is more medium length but it is so thick that it is like trying to shoot into a very plush carpet.

Re: 03/05 Frankie AMPS: 381

I've never tried anything but the shoulders, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Lucian being 14, his skin is loose and he is very much the short hair and it's not thick, never has been, so I'm lucky there. I was looking at Patches and there is no way I could even see skin on her, it's so thick, she's a plushy too. :-D So is Shadow, very thick, plush fur, although short in length. It would be harder with them.

I did notice, that at a smaller dose, was harder to tell when the plunger went in, it doesn't move hardly at all. With Lucian, I watch it, my hands are partially numb and shakey, it's hard enough for me to tell. Thankfully, my eyes still work!

Hang in there hon, it'll get better. Takes time and as bad as I hate to hear it, ECID - every cat is different and you're still learning and she's still building her depot. I have learned this much. :-D

Yep you will learn to hate the ECID statement but it is oh so true, after having several diabetics not a single one of them have been the same. Plus Frankie is still building up her shed, granted if she doesn't start showing us some more movement here in the next few days we may have to think about taking her up slightly in dose but right now it is just a waiting game to see how she is going to do.

Somebody loves her daddy :-D

Awww so sweet. My Patches does the same thing, whenever I'm on the pc, she has to be here 90% of the time. :-D

That's better at least she is coming down a little. Hopefully she will do a little better tomorrow as her shed gets a little more filled up. She has such a sweet face.

Does she have white 'eye liner' under her eyes and what looks like a white line around the outer edge of her ears? She looks so much like my Shadow, when she was young. :-D

I'll have to get a pic of my Shadow, when she's not sleeping. :-D She's on Lucian's page. She's my old feral, 16, 17 in September approx, and thank god, NOT diabetic. I mentally fought for 8 weeks to test her, I was too afraid of what I might find. When I finally did, just a few days ago, she gave me a 60!! I was soooo happy! :-D

There we go now she is starting to show some action...good girl...fingers crossed for a nice sunny yellow amps tomorrow. <anti-jinx)

Sorry there was no one there to answer you last night, it was almost midnight for me.

Personally, if Lucian is not nosediving and showing me 100 @+3, I leave out food and go to bed. She is still filling her shed, as I understand it, so she isn't getting full use of the insulin yet. You'll get a better idea over the next few days. Like Lucian yesterday...at +5 he was 74 and I knew he had a couple more hours to drop, so I 'steered' him with food to keep him from going too low. Had it been at night, I would have had to do the same thing, which sux, but it has to be done.

A few more days, with a couple mid cycle tests, will give you an idea of how low she might go.........until she changes it on you. Never a dull moment. :-D

Have a good day! I'm btb.
