02/26 Minnie PMPS 102, til 156 @+13 fed/shot. 152@ +1, 278@ +2

I was going to post on your yesterday's post: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...3-6-5-467-8-5-444-started-4-25u-today.243704/ but the board was frozen last night.

Good to see Minnie's numbers come down overnight. By the way, given the amount you test, save your money on the fructosamine, not necessary. It gives an average over two weeks and it's pretty obvious you aren't missing any really low numbers.

Are you still using just the AT? I saw mention of the TrueMetrix on the SS too. And the SS is missing last night's dose.

Any particular reason you are feeding her the DM Selects? Something lower carb might be a better choice. Save the DM , if she likes it, in case there are times you need a higher carb LC.

Thank you again for the advice. I get very excited when I see a post from you! Spreadsheet updated.

Still using the AT because it's still hard to get large enough blood samples, though having a bit more luck the last few times. I'm being Goldilocks with meters. I have AT, Relion Prime and TrueMetrix and got some PetSure strips to try for the AT. TrueMetrix was a panic buy when I ran out of AT and Relion strips during snowstorm - then it broke so they are sending a replacement. Relion needed more blood than I could get. I really like that AT only needs 0.3 and the strips are easier, taking blood from the side. I'm thinking of moving to the Freestyle Lite which also only needs 0.3. Last week Freestyle strips were same price as AT but now I see they're cheaper.

I have 3 cases of the DM Selects so I was using them up I guess, plus I suppose I'm still a little bit under the spell of the vets though that is getting weaker! I got a case of DM pate 5% and Weruva chicken frickazee 2% so I've been giving the Selects at shot time and the others for other meals/snacks...maybe misguidedly trying not to change too much at once.

Question...for where we are right now, is it better to pick one carb % and stick to it i.e. ok to give her different foods with the same % carb but maybe have different calories/protein/fat, or is it better to pick one variety of food and stick with that? And do you consider the DM selects MC?

Thank you!!

DM Selects is just barely LC (10% and under). You don't have to stick to just one carb percent or just one food, but more a range is OK.Most of us feed in the 3-6% range. Some cats are a little more carb sensitive than others, which you will find out where Minnie is over time. You can always return two of the cases of Selects to the vet and you should get your money back. Tell them she didn't like it.

Got it, thanks yet again.

And I contacted Chewy about the 2 cases of DM Selects, they are reimbursing me and said to donate them. Win win win! :cat:

Advice please! @Wendy&Neko

Minnie was at 146 @ +9.75. Gave her one last preshot snack, 1tsp 5% DM pate and just took the PMPS - she's now at 102. Newbie tips say to stall and ask for help, so here I am! A little nervous, a little relieved.

Thanks

She got to 156 at +13h so I'm going to give her the 4.25u and will feed her. This is my first go around with this scenario, so just need instructions on how to get through the night and what time for the morning dose :) Thanks in advance

Great. I will be around.

You can get back on schedule by shooting 15 minutes ahead every cycle.

Thank you! Either I'm going crazy or you edited your post, I'm sure I saw something that said I can feed and shoot, which I have done :D.

I think I knew what to do but with it being the first time, I was trying to diligently follow the instructions in the newbie tips and wanted permission!!

Just need advice now on what to do rest of the evening. Usually I would test again before bed (around +2.5) and give a snack at bedtime then nothing til morning. I don't think that's going to happen tonight though!

Thanks so much again for helping with my angst.

Just to confirm, you have now switched her from DM Selects to DM from today? What did you feed when you shot?
This morning was the last can of the DM Selects (10%) and I gave her DM 5% when I shot tonight. The last week or so I have been giving her DM selects at shot time and something lower for snacks, either DM 5% or Chicken Frickazee 2%.

She's still hungry and I have some 8% Weruva Lamburgini so probably give her that instead?

OK. Like Wendy suggested, maybe switch her gradually to 5% carbs and see if she does better on lower carbs.

And could you please take out the "AMPS 385" at the end of your thread title. We can keep only PM numbers for now :-)

Saw the +2 and that's a bounce. Looks like you can get that early night after all.

If you shot at 9pm tonight, you can shoot at 08:45am tomorrow morning, 8:30pm tomo night, 08:15 am the day after and so on till you are back at your regular shooting time.
Good night! :-)

Ha, I was just replying and stopped when the alert came in! I don't know how you all keep track of all us newbies and our schedules, you wrote just as I was testing her :). Looks like this is going to force me to be a bit more structured with my timings...I've overslept the last couple of mornings which is why the morning variations.

I'm sort of excited and relieved, finally feels like we're approaching some sort of control or at least influence over this for the first time since she was diagnosed in April. A bounce, just like all the other sugarkitties!

I was thinking of setting the alarm for +8 (5am) since that's when she started dropping in the daytime and try to test and give her a snack. Or if it's a bounce does that mean I don't need to bother??
