I probably should have gotten another test last night, but I did not.
The cats are normally fed when the coffee maker is done. I got up at 4:00am, when I usually get up at 5:00am and Jackson had to wait around an extra hour afterwards.
He was extra playful this morning. First I saw him playing with (kicking at) one of Sabrina's toys, and actually saw him throw it up into the air and reach to catch it. Then I saw him flattened down on his belly with his tail wagging back and forth, before he leaped and chased Sabrina (running) across the room. They he went to one of the vertical cat scratchers and actually reached up to scratch it (I haven't seen him use a cat scratcher in ages). Then he played with the circle thing with the ball that rolls around in it.
He only played a little on each, but none of these have I seen him playing with in a long time.
After testing, when it was finally time to give him his shot, it didn't work so good.
I normally do Right at Night and Left in the Morning (each side of his scruff area). He was facing away from me, so the needle was pointing toward his tail end, and he screamed when I inserted it (nothing new) and then the plunger didn't seem to be pushing even though I had a pretty high tent, it was like the needle was against bone or hard muscle. I took it out and tried immediatly again in the same area, and it still didn't work. When I looked at the syringe the needle was bent 90 degrees sideways, and still had a little over 2 units in it. I of course did not give him anymore and call it a fur shot. I don't know if he got any or his fur got it all.
Last night, I talked to my friend who I haven't talked to since she over nighted the Lantus to me.
It was below freezing that night, but I did not see any floaties in the insulin. I asked my friend if the person she got the insulin from had kept it cold. She had received 6 boxes of Lantus and gave 5 away and kept the one with the longest expiration date (11/2026) which she shipped to me in January. She said she did not know how it was kept by the other person, but they must have had it for a couple of years right?
I told her I still haven't picked up a prescription for Lantus. She said to have my vet call in the prescription to WalMart and then I don't need to drive 20 miles to pick up a paper copy in these snowy winter conditions we are having. And, once I have the fresh Lantus to maybe try 1 unit and test. I told her I would wait until a Saturday (my only day off) to do it. Does that sound okay? I'm thinking I should try 2 units.
Do I need to get a Lantus Savings Card mailed to me, or how does that work?
Can someone please send me a link to the instructions for the Lantus Savings Card again?
I then called my vet's office and asked them to have my vet call in prescriptions for both Lantus and syringes to WalMart. It will be nice to get the WalMart syringes (if I can convince them they have the ones with the 1/2 unit marks). I've been getting them from Amazon at 60 a box, and Walmart sells them with 100 a box.
When I got the Cat Man Doo Life Essentials freeze dried salmon treats a month ago, I had to laugh out loud as Jackson grabbed the big 5 oz bag from the shipping box, and he looked so funny as he carried that big orange bag in his mouth with his head held high into my bedroom. He had the bottom of the bag ripped open in no time, so it has been sitting high on a shelf out of reach, upside down.
This morning, there was just a little bit left in the bag, so I sprinkled what was left on top of their breakfasts.
And I left the empty bag on the counter. After breakfast this morning, Jackson retrieved the empty bag from the counter and came out with it in his mouth with his head held high into the livingroom
. So silly.
I hope he won't go too high today.
