Good Morning,

Whiskers is looking well this morning. She used the litter box. Her ears look much better and I'm going to call our vet to see if we can discontinue the Zymox hc.

All our pets have had Rescue Remedy behind the ears, although Minnie took a swat at Whiskers prior to application :sad: .

We are very grateful to DCIN and everyone who donated in helping us to go to the U of M tomorrow.

Our regular vet was not in today, so I guess I will ask the faculty vet at U about her ears.

How are you?

Whiskers 10th day was last night. Her ears look a lot better, but seems to still be a little brown gunk, not nearly as much before.

Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow, Cheryl. Glad to hear that Whiskers used her box and that her ears are looking better. Hope the UM vet will have some answers for you.

I think its nice for them to have a short written summary of whats been going on/history from the owners perspective. They may/may not look at it during the appt, but will keep in file. I thought it would be helpful in case I needed to call and talk with someone unfamiliar with Latte. It did often help. The students read those files tooth and nail, passing info on to the vets. Have your list of meds, copy of spreadsheet, and maybe a short outline of whats been going on with dates (for your own reference when they ask you questions). Make a list of questions. Bring a pen. :mrgreen:

They now email test results to you, along with their summary - if you ask. Otherwise they will mail it a week or two later. Sometimes it takes them that long or longer to get it to your regular vet. Tho they are getting better.

I always made a point to be overly organized when I went to the U. It was a big deal and cost lots of money. I needed to make sure no stone was left unturned. I think it also helped the vet understand that my involvement with care is vital.

Oh - and as you have probably experienced, along with Patty, expect it to take 4x longer than you plan.

I forgot to add (and this is for anyone going to the vet)...
Bring your meter, strips, food and/or treats. Its always a good idea to do this when travelling with a diabetic cat, whether it be a 15 minute trip 10r hrs. Test Whiskers before you go, and shortly once you get home.

You would think cats go higher due to stress, but some will drop (a lot!). To give you a chuckle, I will never forget the garbage truck blocking my alley on the way home from the vet, while I knew Latte had and/or was dropping. Just a few hundred feet from my parking spot and I couldnt get through. Feeding treats, talking to her, honking my horn. they let me through VERY quickly. I cant remember off hand how low she was, or how much she dropped...but it was significant and important to get her more stable. :smile:

Tomorrow is a good opportunity to collect this data for future reference.

You just never know with these cute, fuzzy critters! :lol:

If you have syringes with 1//2 unit measurements, please bring one. Dr. H had not seen one before (tho heard of them) . Of course I had one with me to show. :lol: The more people he can see this from, the better. You are as just as much educating the students/vet, as they are helping you!

Thank you so much, I have already gotten her veterinary records and faxed copies to the U of M. I've packed syringes, meter, strips, lancets, and will pack food and insulin in a cooler tomorrow morning. I'm going to print our SS now, and I will try to make an outline in the morning. Again thank you so much, I don't know why I couldn't find the original post, I'm going to bookmark this one for future referance.

P.S. Really strange, Whiskers had her lowest PMPS in two weeks. Go figure the night before the U. :dizcat
