Thanking everyone for their dental vines and well wishes for today. Horrible to see that number and not try and shooting it down. Poor Vyktor is so hungry I woke up to him licking my underarms! No food since 9pm last night and it's now 6.30am. I wish I could explain it all to him - but perhaps he doesn't want to know :? Meanwhile he thinks if he just purrs a bit louder and rubs on me a bit harder that food will be forthcoming so I'm getting a lot of love. I'm going to feel so horrible leaving him at the vets - but you've all been there so you know eactly how I feel

Will update as soon as I hear anything but chances are that won't be until later this afternoon. When I have an animal in for surgery I have a don't ring me I'll ring you policy, just in case, I don't want to fall apart at work and if the worst has happened there's nothing I can do about it so why not delay the inevitable news a little. Sadly once the worst did happen but maybe that means I've already had my share of that.

Hoping everyone has a great day and all kitties are green - well there's no harm in hoping!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

I guess it will be the middle of the night for me when you have news. Yours will be the first condo I check in the morning. Unless I wake up for a midnight pee, I check then  Sending vines. :YMHUG:

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Drop off was dreadful. Vyktor went ballistic, even by his standards. The vet nurse couldn't handle him so she had me put him in a carrier (Vyktor never goes in a carrier) and he just went bananas. He was even biting me.

I'm not expecting any news before 2pm (it is 9.20am here now).

Dream nice dreams about Vyktor for me LL.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Poor guy, I'm sure he will do just fine once he is settled (and medicated - ;-) ) We will send lots of good energy to you in our dreams tonight and be on the lookout for a report in our morning. Thanks for the update!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Poor Vyktor...I will have nothing but the best dreams ever for you guys. I can't wait till this is over, so I can only imagine how you and Vyktor are feeling!!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Oh, the poor little guy. I'll say a few prayers and calls, out to my mom who looks down on me every night. She loves all animals, she does so much more "up there" then any of us beans on earth can do down here, (IMHO). Can't wait to here from you tomorrow Serryn, I know Vyktor will be fine.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

((((serryn)))))

he's probably snoozing wonderfully by now and getting all his teeth all fixed.

we're thinking of both of you. waiting for news.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

We're all sending you big hugs and comfort from AZ and sening Vyktor healing vines. Prayers are included that your big handsome guy will be home soon and feeling better after losing the achy tooth.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Lots of healing vines for you, Vyktor. Be brave! We all want to see you happy and hungry tomorrow morning (our time).

Hugs to you, Serryn. I made the avocado mousse tonight. It is spectacularly good. Thank you!!

Ella & Rusty (who did not get any of the mousse!)

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Serryn, Sending Good Dental vines & hope it is easy & quick!
Hugging you close & hope I wake up to hear he is great and has nice clean teeth!
Hugs & Love from us!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Seven teeth have been removed including the upper and lower fang on one side - stiches required. There looked to be some infection (certainly redness) in some areas so the removals may very well help with his numbers but he does need antibiotics.
Don't know whether or not he'll be coming home tonight as yet. He was given pain relief with his pre-meds and has been given a shot of bupe but we only have the version that lasts eight hours here  Vet said if he wasn't diabetic he would definitely be keeping him in, if he doesn't stay the night I will have to take him back in the morning for another bupe shot. given that it only lasts eight hours I am concerned that means he's going to be in pain for a while so part of me wants him to stay so they can overlap the shots properly.
I will definitely be in to see him tonight either way, apart from desperately wanting to see him if he stays I need to go in to give him his insulin as they only have canninsulin there. Vet is thinking just another half dose tonight. Forgot to ask what his BG was but will do before the next update.
He had his hind quarters x-rayed as well and he does have arthritis (the vet said spurs?) at the bottom of his spine where it meets with the hips but vet said that it's not too bad.
Matted fur has been clipped off his hips and they also gave him a good brush all over so he is knot free.
He was only just starting to wake up when I spoke to him and still had his vet nurse sitting with him - pleased about that the nurse that was with him won the last best vet nurse in the country award.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Good report on Vyktor, sounds like a dental was needed. If you can't do pain meds at home, I think I would leave him overnight. Not ideal but extractions are painful for at least a couple of days afterwards. Give Vyktor some scritches from his LL aunties when you go see him! cat_pet_icon

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Serryn, sounds like Vyktor really needed that dental and did okay. I know it's such a worry. Sending healing vines and lots of scritches to Vyktor.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Once the pain has subsided, ((Vyktor)) will be a new kitty. Does the vet suggest any treatment for the arthritis? Sending comfortable mouth vines for Vyktor and it's over now, you can relax vines for you. :YMHUG:

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

Poor Vyktor. But at least now he is on the road to recovery, and once he heals up, he'll be a very happy kitty! Trix had 7 teeth pulled last April (actually, one full tooth; the rest were roots that were stuck under her gumline after those teeth broke off), and she bounced back pretty quickly. I'm sure with your love, Vyktor will, too!

Please keep us posted (I know you will!!)!!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376

My boy is home :-D he's pretty wobbly and currently in his cupboard having a snooze. With all his flank fur missing he's not going to do such a great job of furring up my dresses though  I've taken a side view photo which I will try to upload shortly but I really want to get a top view for you guys - he looks so skinny.

He wanted food immediately and has had 100g/3.5oz split into 4 over 20 mins. Hope that wasn't too fast but he was really hungry. Given that he ate and his high BG I gave him his full dose of insulin tonight and we're only 1 hour off schedule so that will be easy to fix over the weekend.

Vet didn't suggest any treatment for the arthritis. I've looked at his x-rays (even his bones are cute  ) and he's shown me the arthritis which he says is very mild. The problem area is his last vertebra wear the hips join. He says given his age his bones look really really good, he was very impressed with how his bones sat nicely in their sockets. His post dx diet should help him out there anyway, of the two types of foods he now eats one contains greenlipped mussels and the other krill oil.

He had a shot of bupe at 3pm and I am to take him back tomorrow for another one. They couldn't give me any bupe to take home because it is a restricted supply but when I pointed out that would leave a massive gap of no pain relief he gave me a bottle of tramadol liquid (way to much for Vyktor and I understand very popular with the druggies, but they can't send me home with one syringe of bupe - go figure) and a referral for the 24hr vet in case I can't get the tramadol into him.

He gave him his first dose of antibiotics and I get to try in the morning. I hope I can get them into him otherwise it will have to be a convenia shot so fingers crossed. I guess the bottom line is everything is looking pretty good right now. My heartfelt thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers and vines today, they mattered.

ETA: I even have a souvenir - his top fang

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407

So glad he's home safe! Sounds like he got a pretty good review overall. I'm proud of him! You must be so relieved. Hopefully his pain won't be bad for long. I think it's great that he wanted to eat so much. You ought to make a necklace with his fang!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392

For some reason, there was a shortage of bupe. I thought it was resolved. Some vets don't like to send you home with it because it's an opiate.

FWIW, you can ask your vet about whether he'd give a shot of clindamycin.

I'm glad the dental is over. It doesn't sound like Vyktor's having too much trouble eating which is a good thing. Gabby had 5 extractions her last dental. She was back to herself in about 2 days.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392

Hey Serryn,
We are glad that Vyktor is home and we know that he will be feeling much better now that those nasty teeth are out. (Rusty had 9 extractions the summer before he came to live with us, plus some other extractions before that; he has 6 teeth left, including his lower canines, but not the upper. He has no problems with eating.)
It sounds like your boy is is good health. Nice pictures! Sending some quick-healing vines.

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Glad it went well and Vyktor has such a wonderful mom! Looks like he is coming down nice and slowly today which seems like a good thing, especially after his traumatic day yesterday! fingers crossed the dental work is all he needed to sort out his high numbers!!!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

So nice to hear everything went well with Vyktor's dental, i can understand how worried you must have been and you must be so glad to have him home again!

Get better soon Vyktor! You'll feel like a brand new kitty once your mouth heals. :-D

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

Hi guys .. so glad the dental is over and it sounds like vyktor came out like a champ! Mocha had her upper canines removed as well .. now when she sleeps, her tongue slips out   have a great weekend guys!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

Awww...little booties! I'm so glad he's home and hungry. We had to shave our Noah (who looks just like Vyktor) in the same manner once. I don't know how they develop those gigantic knots - and they always seem to do it in the blink of an eye!

Feel better, Vyktor!!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

Sooo glad it all went well! Vyktor's booties are cute, but it looks like he lost his britches. He's coming down nicely today.

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

SERRYN!!! I am so glad he is home & safe!! Both Moonie & her DB Copper (GA) had multiple extractions..Moonie had 9 extractions in 2 yrs, and was fine after both--Think she has about 4 teeth left--
Bupe is the recommended, couldnt vet give you enough for 2-3 doses??
We dont recommend covenia, there have been bad events surrounding the use of that drug---
Glad those bad teeth are out--Vyktor you still look so handsome!! and he will be so much better after this!!
Sending Healing Vines & Love from us!!--We know you will take great care of him!!

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

Victor looks great! (nice booties)
Glad it's over and he is home. bummer about the bupe. It's controlled here too but I've never had trouble getting it - the kind that you place in the cheek pocket and is absorbed through the skin. Got a bottle in the fridge.

Wishing him a speedy recovery!
(grab whatever sleep you can. . . ;-) )

Re: 02/24 Vyktor AMBG 407 PMPS 376 +1 392 +3 320

It sounds like all went well and Vyktor will be much happier (if a little embarrassed) soon. You'll even be forgiven for the shave.

Perhaps ask your vet if a glucosamine supplement would help w/ the arthritis. Cosequin is formulated for cats and is OTC>

Thanks for reminding me to sleep Sandy, I've just realised I've got to be up in 4 hours for the next dose of tramadol and my eyes are falling out of my head. It's after 1am here and not a green number in sight - what am I doing?!?!?!?!?

Vyktor is home with his mama and doing well! I feel relieved, too, now that the dental is done. Sending healing vines to your sweet boy, and relaxing vines to you, Serryn.

Its so great to hear that Vyktor is home and it sounds like he did so well. Sending healing vines to you and Vyktor. Hope you can get some sleep soon. Too bad about those stupid rules on the pain meds.

glad he made it through the dental without problems! cute booties! does he actually like them? can't imagine punkin tolerating them on his feet, but you never know.

So great to hear he did well .....poor boy! Seven extractions! Hope the tram helps as much as the bupe. I don't believe the bupe is in short supply in the US any longer...I've had no problem getting it for Gus who takes it daily. Course that doesn't help you :-|

I hope you got some rest now that your handsome boy is home safe with you. He looks very adorable in his booties :-D sleep tight.

I'm relieved to hear that Vyktor is convalescing at home! I am sorry that he had seven extractions. What will the tooth fairy bring him? Catnip? Treats? I am a people dentist and I confess I have neglected my cats' teeth because, well, they are so difficult to do hygiene on! I think I ought to get Simon a dental while he's on insulin so that if (anti-jinx) he should go OTJ we wouldn't have any issues lurking.

Rest well, sweet Vyktor!

Awww Vyktor! I bet your mouth hurts. I loved seeing the photo of him with his booties on. I have Jake's (GA) fang as a souvenir too. (I considered burying it with his cremains but I kept it.) I hope he is feeling much better tomorrow and is back to himself in a day or so. I bet he will feel really good without those teeth hurting. Are you thinking of trying some cosequin or glucosamine for the arthritis?

I hope you get some rest - you have to be tired staying up so late and worrying!!
