+1 89 - 31g Evo 95% C&T
+2 71
PMPS 104, 2.0u, 41g Evo 95% C&T

WCR: All is well with Blackie. The lump hasn't swelled up, and it's as flat as can be against her back. Granted, there's still the "mole" lump that's there, but the surrounding tissue hasn't swelled back up. I think the Convenia is doing it's job (this time), and I think Dr. B used the Convenia as it's intended purpose... For skin infections, which this is since she did draw about 1 1/2 syringes of pale yellow colored pus from that lump on Friday. I think our former vet simply used the Convenia as a general antibiotic like amoxicillin is used to cure infections, no matter what it is. I'm glad I switched vets.

Yesterday, we had a bit of running around to do (hence I wasn't home to test, plus wanted to give her ears a break anyway), and we hit a pet food store to pick up a new food for the other 3 cats. I picked up an 11 lb. bag of Blue Buffalo Grain-Free Chicken Recipe Indoor Mature, since they're definitely up there in age. It's a dry food, and it claims to have no wheat, corn, soy, no chicken or poultry by-product meals, no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors. If anyone is interested in looking at it, here's the link:

http://bluebuffalo.com/cat-food/freedom-indoor-mature-chicken?pf=1&type=dry&animal=cat

You don't need to feed a whole lot of this stuff as it's 354 Kcal/cup. On the bag it says that for a cat weighing 5-9 lbs., you would feed 1/4-1/2 cup; for a cat weighing 10-14 lbs., you would feed 1/2-1 cup. I need to be careful with what I feed as Groucho, one of Blackie's babies, has a sensitive stomach. I'm hoping that this stuff will be fine with him, and I think it will be. I broke open the bag yesterday, and gave them all a few bites of it. They went to town. And last night, I gave them each 1/8 teaspoon of it on their food. I've started the slow transition process from the Friskies to the Blue Buffalo.

I'm kicking myself now for not getting this product when the others were still around. This stuff isn't cheap, and I feel like I've cheated the others out of a proper diet before they passed away. Yes, guilt is settling in, big time. Also, at the time we were faced with a lot of vet bills due to their health issues, however, that's life as we all know. I really don't think there was anything we could've done to stop the onslaught of cancer, though. The main thing is to try and prolong the lives of the ones that we do have left.

Sending tons and tons of positive thoughts, healing vines, and excellent health vibes to those who need them.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone to have great #s... For everyone to be OJT.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113

I wouldn't give the Blue Buffalo to a diabetic. I thought I found this great find way back when J.D. was first diagnosed, but there's lots of vegetables, potatoes, and fruits in Blue Buffalo.
Ingredients
Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Potatoes, Peas, Pea Fiber, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Potato Starch, Powdered Cellulose, Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids), Natural Chicken Flavor, Fish Oil (source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Alfalfa Meal, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Taurine, Cranberries, Blueberries, Apples, Blackberries, Pomegranate, Spinach, Pumpkin, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Dried Kelp, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Turmeric, L-Lysine, L-Carnitine, Dried Chicory Root, Oil of Rosemary, Beta Carotene, Carrots (source of Vitamin A), Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Niacin (Vitamin B3), d-Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Choline Chloride, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Salt, Caramel, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Dried Yeast (source of Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, Dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, Dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product

I'm glad the lump has gone down. Most of us have NO METACAM, NO COVENIA written in bold red capital letters in our cat's charts. I guess Blackie is not allergic to it.
Healing vines being sent to Blackie's lump.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113

Hi Angela, it is wonderful that Blackie's lump has gone away and that the Convenia is being used for the purpose for which it is intended. She is starting off the day with a nice number, as always.
Good luck with the Blue Buffalo dry food for your kibble addicts. It sounds like they really like it.

Have a fine day.

Hugs & scritches,

Ella & Rusty

+1 84 - 31g Evo 95% C&T

Meal is still a carb thing, which still turns into sugar, which is a HUGE no-no for diabetics. It's much better suited for the 3 kibble addicts that I have. Blackie's showing very nice #s on this Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey that she's getting. No worries, guys. You know I would put my little darling in harms way. :-D

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

Good morning Angela ~O)
Blackie looks beautiful today...as always
Glad you like the new vet and found such great fuds for the kibble addicts. I did look at that brand in the pet store for my guys, but was too worried about Twice getting into it  And he WOULD have!
Great news on the lump as well. Your condo is just a happy positive place to be this fine Sunday :-D :-D
Have a fab one Angela!

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

Angela - Please keep your eyes on your kitties while they eat that food. I don't have experience with that specific food, but I was feeding Blue Basics Turkey and Potato grain free last year to my 3 kibble addicts and it made them extremely sick over time. They were constantly throwing up clear fluid at random times during the day, lost several pounds each, and were generally looking scruffy -all three of them. When I took them in for bloodwork, they had odd values - Petey's calcium was elevated; Zen's calcium was low....weird stuff like that. I did a little research and found others had calcium issues (mainly the elevated calcium) when feeding Blue products, and I know their dog food has also caused similar health issues - I think they've even had recalls because of this. I switched them off this food to stuff I swore I would never ever feed (Purina One and Science Diet), and they almost immediately improved - stopped throwing up, and within a couple weeks, they gained back the weight that they had lost. Blue makes me very nervous...I just wanted to share our experience with it.

I'm so glad Blackie's lump is looking better - what a huge relief!!

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

Morning Angela ~O) ~O) ~O)

What a nice start for Blackie - looking good there little one.

I hope the new food will work for the kitties, paws crossed. I have no experience with it, so can't really help.

Excellent on Blackie's lump. That is good news. I think so too on the convenia, it has it's place. I have used it with Elsa once when she had a similar infection.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

I'm glad Blackie is doing so well today. And what a beautiful start! . I hope she surfs that for you now, no lower please, Blackie ;-)

I'm sending healing vines to Blackie, and I hope you have a good Sunday!

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

Blackie those are some great numbers! :-D

Glad to hear the lump is doing so well. It makes sleeping at night easier knowing the best Vet care is being provided.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

Hi Angela,

Love Blackie's numbers!! She needs to teach a class in Proper BG numbers for Sugarbabies

Glad that her lump is staying down. My BFF runs a TNR "rescue" and her vet uses Convenia for skin wounds/infections also. Looks like it is doing it's job with Blackie, with no side effects :-D
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64

I'm glad Blackie's lump hasn't swelled back up and the convenia is helping. Nice numbers today.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64, +8 68

Now, I'm worried that I may be not helping the others by giving them this new food. If there is a problem, the good thing is that I can return the opened bag back to the store. I'm keeping the receipt in case.

Re: 02/23 Blackie AMPS 113, +1 84, +2 64, +8 68

I just wanted you to be aware that my guys really had a problem with this brand, and it seems it's not all that uncommon. On paper, it does sound like good food. I was trying to find one that didn't have chicken, fish, or grain in it and thought I hit the jackpot with this one. They were eating it for several months, but I honestly can't remember how long it was before they started showing symptoms, but all tolled I think they were on it for maybe 3-4 months...in that timeframe, they each lost 2lbs. Just keep your eyes on them...and if you have a chance, do some Googling on it to see what others have to say about it. Having a food not agreeing with them is one thing, but the hypercalcemia thing is scary stuff.

What a great day for Blackie. Glad the lump is not growing, and the numbers are excellent.

There are so many foods out there that claim to be the healthiest ones for our cats, it's a wonder we can every choose. I have no experience with Blue so can offer no advice, but don't forget that ECID, so yours might not have the issues with it that Amy's did. Keeping a close eye on them for bad reactions is good advice on any diet changes. Hopefully, they'll all do well and Blackie will not sneak any of it! ;-)
