Last Night:
521 PMPS
558 +2.5
329 +6
394 +11.25

J.D. seemed a little less moving, shall we say, last night. He was staying in one place more than he normally does. And one of those places was across my chest and under my neck (where I felt his soft fur) and being supported from falling off the couch by my not so good arm. That lasted for about an hour, then we went to bed.
Before that, he didn't eat much of his 1st Dinner, so I got him to eat almost 1 jar of baby food beef with broth.

This morning, I gave him Pepcid at +11.25. At +11.75 I heard him throwing up near his litter box. Very little if anything came out. I gave him some cypro and some Ondansetron at AMPS. He licked the water from the food I gave him for 1st Breffis. I am hoping the cypro kicks in and he eats better. Otherwise, I'm going to have to try to syringe feed him.

I am hoping his blood work and urinalysis test results are okay. It's waiting for the doctor to call today, for me.

I'm off to go see if he's eaten any of the fish flavor FF I left for him.

Re: 02/18 J.D. AMPS 370

Sorry about the vomit. I hope J.D.'s tummy feels better and he eats for you this morning. I hope the doctor calls soon and you get good results.

Re: 02/18 J.D. AMPS 370

J.D. is acting okay. I just wish he would eat some more. I ended up syringing two 10ml syringes of Max Cal.

Off to get ready for tbp.

Re: 02/18 J.D. AMPS 370

Hope the vomiting is done with and that his tummy feels better. Eat JD!

JD loves you and wants to spend time with his mommy all cuddled up. Can't ask for anything more than that he sez!!

Re: 02/18 J.D. AMPS 370 - RBC 5.95

She called and said his BUN had come down a little, from 55 to 51? I didn't write those numbers down,
but his RBC was on the low side and we should recheck with another CBC in 2 weeks.
History:
8.16 11/25/2011
8.42 02/11/2012
7.98 03/20/2012
8.61 06/01/2012
7.65 10/15/2012
6.81 03/22/2013
6.80 07/08/2013
6.40 09/19/2013
6.63 11/01/2013
All of the above reference ranges were 6.0 - 10.0 M/uL
5.95 02/17/2014
The doctor said that they have changed the reference range to 7.0 to 10.0, so he is really on the low side now.

This worries me. She said something about a steroid that they shouldn't give to diabetics, and trying to feed him a liver based cat food.

Dyana,

Sending blessings for J.D. I hope the steroid that they want to give him is not Depo Medrol. It is very long lasting, weeks. It is what caused diabetes I am sure in my Siamese mix Lilly.
I sure do hope he gets to feeling better soon and sending appy vines as well.

I forgot to ask the doctor when she was on the phone how long to give the Orbax for, so I called back and the receptionist said the doctor said to give J.D. Orbax 1cc once per day for 10 days, but the paperwork that came with his Unirnalysis says "Orbax Suspension, 1ml by mouth once a day for 5 days".
She said she saw a little bacteria in his urine and an antibiotic wouldn't hurt and I told her I had Orbax and she said perfect.
I guess this is where it is on the paperwork:
sediment: epithelia 1+, white blood cells rare, cocci bacteria 1+

J.D. didn't want to eat when I got home from work, or he only ate a little, especially after I gave him the Orbax. The expression on his face after he got that :-x I gave him some cypro and went out for a bit and came home to him chowing down on the YAZC mixed with EVO dry, and so I offered some FF Beef with FortiFlora and he ate some of that. And a bunch of food that I had put out for 1st Dinner was gone too, so I don't know if he was chowing down on FF Chunky Turkey, while I was away.

I am feeling really tired. Stress from working with a bad hand (now my wrist seems to hurt) plus stress from J.D.'s blood work results :-| I was on Tanya's Site for a while.

I started to fill in his lab work on his spreadsheet, but almost all of the reference ranges have been changed. It's a lot of work and I will finish tomorrow.

Off to bed for us.

Hi Dyana. I take it J.D. has kidney disease, right? The more important number is the creatinine but you don't mention what that is. Especially if the test wasn't done on a fast the BUN will be higher than if fasted. Feeding high protein and male cats with lots of muscle can have a higher normal BUN. Other important numbers are the phosphorus with kidney disease and HCT if anemia is suspected. An infection definitely can influence all this as I know you know. I hope you both feel better and have a better night.

The RBC's carry hemoglobin and low RBCs indicate anemia. The way you normally would see it reported which would give you more info is in the hematocrit or HCT. The HCT is similar to packed cell volume in that it measures the amount of RBCs to total blood volume. It is very typical for CKD cats to be anemic. If the HCT is lower than 20%, he needs an erythropoetin stimulating agent like Aranasp. But if it is above 20%, the B vitamin supplementation (methylB12 and Jarrows B Right multi B) can really help a lot. Using those two vitamins, Gus's HCT never went below 25% which is really good for a stage 3 CKD cat.

punkin had some similar values to what Marje is talking about - 23.5%, 28%, 25% - so it basically held flat without treatment. i don't know how to compare that to the scale you've got on JD, but am hoping he also holds flat with it.

hoping you're feeling better after your fall. :YMHUG:
