Last Night:
393 PMPS
280 +4.5

J.D. had gone to bed and I had fallen asleep on the couch watching Animal Planet. At +4.5, J.D. came to me and woke me up, and so I thought I should test him. He was 280. Then he headed back to my bedroom. I called him back but he ignored me. He went into the bedroom, turned around and came all the way back to me, turned around and headed back to the bedroom. I guess he wanted me to go to bed. :) Where he gets treats at bedtime.

Last night, the pathways to my car were pretty much covered in ice, and I used our entire 5 gallon bucket of salt going back and forth sprinkling that salt on the pathways that lead to my car. I then called the home owners association to let them know that we were out of salt.
I look out the window this morning, and they still look covered with ice. I was hoping the salt would clear a path for when I have to carry J.D. in his carrier to my car.

J.D. didn't want to get out of bed, but I finally picked him up and brought him to the living room to test and get his Pepcid and shot. He then went back in the bedroom and is laying next to my bed and eating his 1st Breffis there.

I'm off to go bring my car as close to the pathways as possible and let it warm up. We leave in 15 minutes to get a blood pressure check.

I am hoping his blood pressure is fine.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289 off to vet visit

Sending good Vetty vines for J.D. for his b/p check. Stay safe vines for you, Dyana. What a winter for all of you. My sisters and Mom live in rural PA, so I've heard how severe. Happy Valentine's Day weekend.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

AVG SYS 172 DIA 120 MAP 143
I went to get my car and warm it up and slipped really bad and hurt my bumm, arm, and head. My arm hurts the most.
Luckily J.D. was not with me. I could brush my teeth and hair and carry J.D. and do our seatbelts and release the parking brake, put the car into gear, steer, and turn the key to get the engine on and off with my left hand, but I could not get the key out of the ignition. I left it in the car at the vet, and had a neighbor go get it out of my car when we got home.
I'm hoping it feels better soon.
J.D. was happy as always to be on the car ride home. He ate some food when we got home.

I'm going to rest for a while.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Oh Dyana, that fall sounded serious! Don't wait too long to get your arm looked at, you may have broken a bone! (((Dyana)))

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

:YMHUG:
hope nothing is broken... that would mean another outing.
wish I could send you some snow boots.... I have several.

I hope the bp was good today....

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Dyana, I'm so sorry you fell. I hope it's nothing serious, but it sounds like you might want to get it checked. I'm glad J.D. wasn't with you and his vetty trip was uneventful. Sending prayers and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Dyana, it's just so treacherous this time of year. I'm hoping you didn't break anything. Hopefully a little motrin is all you need. Don't like hearing that you hit your head. Please keep us posted and watch out for any headaches. Make sure you have someone check on you just to make sure you're ok.
Sending feel better and "it's nothing serious" vines your way.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Dyana

Maybe you should go to urgent care or somewhere you can get an X-ray.

I don't recall but is that JDs first BP over 170? How many readings did they take? When Gus had a BP over 160 on several occasions, we started his amlodipine. A normal BP should be 145 and you could factor in about 20 PTS for stress but my vet also had literature (research) that showed the BP dopplers used on pets often under reads by about 14 in addition to the 20. So with a CKD cat, our clinic it's conservative and they take five readings per visit, resting between, average them. And then we did several visits over a few weeks. Since he was always over 160, we started the meds. If JD has brrn consistently over 270, I'd went to start BP meds.

Please let us know how you are.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

I really hope you're OK. How about getting a massage (once you call the association and tell them again to get the walks cleared so they're safe).

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Hope you are feeling better Dyana. If not, and if you can get out safely, maybe a trip to an urgent care just to check out the arm?
Glad J.D. is feeling okay.

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

I hope it's just bruising, but it would be worth getting it checked out. IF you couldn't get the key out that sounds serious. Take as good care of yourself as you do J.D. he needs his bean in tip top condition!

Re: 02/15 J.D. AMPS 289, +2.5 201 - I slipped :(

Oh, no! That is a bad fall. I hope you're feeling better. Good idea to have someone check on you.

Dyana, I agree with the others. Get to an Urgent Care and get yourself checked out. You don't want to fool around.
I hope that all is OK.

The link above is to the ice walkers we use to walk around town on icy pavement. Stabilicers Lite (not to be confused with climbing cleats.) We buy them in the supermarket or the drugstore, but you might have to order them (or go to Campmor if you live close to it.). I just leave them on my "town boots" all winter. I can even drive in them.

Thinking of you and sending vines.

{{{Dyana}}}:

Add me to the list of people who think you need to go get yourself checked from head to bum ;-) ! If you did injure something and don't get treatment, it will only get worse. We are all concerned about you, so please get checked and let us know how it goes!

I'd also be sure to let the Association know you fell - they may have some liability if you are injured. It also may motivate them to do something about the ice.

Sending healing vines. :YMHUG:

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

Thanks ladies. My arm almost goes straight and I can get it up to within 6 or 7 inches of my mouth. Luckily my left hand has been taught well over the years. I only have a very tiny headache and I looked at myself in the mirror and my pupils look the same.

J.D. gave me a green  at least. He didn't eat that much today, but he ate okay. I was able to pill him his Denamarin with my left hand, and I drew up his B12 shot and gave it to him.

I'm getting a little bored of laying on the couch.

Ella, I think I had some of those snap on cleats once, but never used them, and now I don't know where they are. They may be in the trunk of my car, but I do not want to walk out there again..
I don't think my arm (the pain is around the top of the forearm area, maybe the elbow) is broke because it's not very swollen, if at all.

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

There are two home owners associations. The one I am a board member of, who is in charge of the front steps (which were perfectly clean) and the other one which is in charge of the pathways, sidewalks, and parking lots. I called the association I am a board member of last night and told them we were out of salt (and they refilled the bucket this morning, as promised). The other association never answers their phone. I left a message, but they probably won't get the message until Tuesday. I tried to email them and received a Failure Notice. I tried to call the Emergency phone number I have for them, and the person who answered that number said a couple of years ago they were the answering service for that phone number but no longer.

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

Dyana, be sure to ice your arm. 20 minutes every hour. Take Advil or another brand of ibuprofin. You want to minimize swelling. Sometimes it comes on gradually. The Stabilicer Lites are rubberized bands that fit on your shoes. They really work.

But please go and have yourself checked out. This is a holiday weekend and places may be on abbreviated schedules tomorrow and Monday.

Hugs,

Ella

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

Thanks. I'll be lucky if my doctor's office is open on Monday, but hopefully. I don't want to ice it. Ice is cold. Do I have to?

J.D.'s numbers were:
SYS DIA MAP
199 114 140
178 135 151
144 118 126
164 135 151
175 96 147
I thought maybe they threw the first set out because it was indented from the rest of the numbers on the printout, but I guess they didn't.

Previous checks:

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital - Hillsborough 05/04/13
Internal Medicine Vet
systolie 160 mm Hg LF cuff 1

Blood Pressure Check 04/27/2013
SYS DIA MAP
183 102 159
190 101 145
188 92 140
184 116 134
184 110 162

Blood Pressure Check 10/01/2012
SYS DIA MAP
169 98 132
164 93 137
166 77 134
172 73 149

I asked the technician and she said that she was not a vet and could not interpret the results and that I could take the results to my regular vet to get that information.
Last time 04/27/13, the vet that did the tests said he was fine, our regular vet said he was fine, and I finally took him to the Internal Medicine Vet 05/04/13 who said he was fine. I spoke to a 4th vet on the phone and asked her and she said that if the Internal Medicine Vet said he was fine then he was fine. At least his numbers are down a little from his test last April. I'll see what our regular vet says on Monday when J.D. goes in for his blood work.

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

(((Dyana))) Add me to the list of worried people. Last year when I fell and broke my elbow, I only thought I'd twisted something until about 8 hours later when it kept on getting worse. You can ice for 10 minutes at a time which will help if there is any soft tissue damage.

Nice cycle for JD today, pretty flat for him.

Re: 02/15 J.D. +3.5 145, +4.5 107, +5.5 97, +6.5 103, +8 259

Hi Dyana,

I was just reading about your fall. I hope its only bruising..but get checked just in case. The icing on and off with help especially in the beginning of the injury. Sending prayers to you and J.D. today.

J.D. drank the water with Miralax from his 1st Dinner and then gave me a nice solid poo.

I went to my neighbor's house and she gave me the lastest and greatest emergency phone number for the H.O.A. responsible for the sidewalks. I left a message and they never did call me back.

It started snowing pretty good, and that helps with to cover the ice and make the footing better, so it's not so slippery, so I took the chance and walked back to my car (avoiding those cement sidewalks), and found my strap on rubber cleats in the trunk of my car.
I took them out of the box and figured I couldn't pull the rubber to strap them on myself, so went to my next door neighbor's house and he put them on my shoes for me. While I was visiting with him, the landscaper in charge person was around and asked where I fell and seemed to be pretty good and concerned. And he said the cleats would really help.

I hope they are okay on my linoleum kitchen floor and bathroom tile floor.

One more hour, and I can take another Naproxen Sodium. I never iced it and it's been 12 hours now. I guess I can go try to get an ice pack out of the freezer now and try it.

Sorry for all the OT, today

Oh dear I hope that you are feeling better soon! I know icing is cold...but it usually feels good too. I have those gel packs you can freeze or heat and they work well especially if I put a thin cloth between it and my skin. Feel better vines have been sent! I hope someone can help you with the results. Hey J.D. can you slide down a bit? Hopefully you have a good evening!

I really hope that you get yourself checked out as soon as possible. I also hope that the H.O.A. gets off their chairs (putting it politely) and get the walkways cleared away so that this doesn't happen again.

I'm so glad that J.D. got a  #!!! WTG J.D.!!! Sending tons of more  vines for him, and tons of healing vines for you.

J.D. ate some more food a bit ago, and is resting in his doggy bed.
He was standing inside the litter box with his tail outside the door in the litter box and pooed on the pee pad. I said "Good Boy!" and gave him treats and threw away the pee pad, and did not put a new one down, and 10 minutes later before I put another pee pad down, he was inside the litter box, with his tail outside the door of the litter box and peed on the carpet. Not a good place to pee, when it's covered by a plastic bottomed pee pad  . And, I had to say "Good Boy!" because if I had done my job, he would have peed on the pee pad. I can not fault him for being all the way inside the litter box except for his tail.

My doctor's office will probably be open on Monday. Maybe, I can get seen that afternoon. It will probably be all better by then, anyway, but thanks for your concern.
