Jax is behaving (hurray!) and Benji is back home from the vet...happily eating :cat: In summary, he didn't have dental done (but is healthy!) and his teeth look great...so great that my vet didn't think the risk of anesthesia in a senior cat was worth it for the cleaning, which she said would be super light. Soooo decision made and he's back home - he's slightly bitter about the whole morning :p

That’s great that Benji didn’t need a dental. He must have good genes. I like your vet not suggesting unnecessary anesthesia.

To be honest, she kind of had to talk me out of it...I had to get so mentally prepared lol. The boys have only had one dental cleaning in 15.5 years  and that was two years ago. She said she wouldn't do it if it was her kitty and that he must have good genes. My hubby says I just need to enjoy the good report :cat:

I agree with DH. Max lost most of his teeth and had her first one pulled when just 5 if my memory is right. Tiffany was only 12 when she passed but never had a tooth pulled. My vet said they get more tartar if not eating dry but I think it’s genetic. The only reason why dry might help is if they don’t chew it which many cats don’t do.

How nice he didn't need another dental! Luci has hardly any teeth left...poor thing. But she uses the ones she has to snap at me now and then...keeps me on my toes!

Glad to see everyone is well and healthy at your house...except for a little bitterness...which I hope he'll get over soon :)

Have a great day Susanne!

That's wonderful news! I'm a huge fan of good oral hygiene and mildly obsessed with getting dentals for cats. Every vet Butters has seen in the past two years has told me she doesn't need a dental...and I've believed none of them. Maybe I'll believe them now:).
