01/29 Casper is home

Hi everyone,
Casper is home! After 36 hours of hospitalization with oxygen and Barium treatment, he is discharged from ER at noon today. He looks exhausted, now hiding under the blanket sleeping. I haven't checked his BG yet, just wanted to give him a break, let him at least get an hour nap.
His HTC dropped down to 15.8, the ER says he is not really concerned with that (I do). They said it's not necessary to do the blood transfussion yet but do follow up in a day or 2 for another CBC and see if his HTC drops down, keep monitoring his gum, tongue, and eyes. If it's getting worse, then we may need a blood transfusion.
@tiffmaxee your thought?
Casper's latest labwork is in his SS lab tab for your reference.

I’m so glad you posted and that he’s home. Did they say what the cause was of this as well as of the anemia? That HCT is ver low. I’m going to look at the labs.

I think I copied, pasted the wrong link to his lab, here is the latest. Sorry Elise.
Casper is either really tired or he is actually really scared, never see him like this before. I tried to offer him some Proplan Hydra care liquid, all he wants is to go back hide under the blanket.

Poor baby. Maybe a bit of both? He has been through an ordeal.
I'm so glad to see your update and that he is home with you where he belongs.

I think I would bd hiding too.

So this time they say the anemia is not caused by CKD. That makes sense because his kidney creatinine and BUN are not high enough. So what caused this? What type of infection ?

We still don't know at this point. I asked for the urinary culture, they didn't think it's necessary to do it. They gave him Unasyn during his stay and send us home with Metronidazole. They said he has spine arthritis, the inflammation may be a cause....Buprenex was given during his stay too. Other than that, they gave us Rx Biotic as a probiotic to put in his food.

The low HTC is caused by IV, sort of dilute his blood content, that's why he said he is not really concerned about that. Without having Casper on the IV, he starts eating normal and takes in nutrion as normal, we should see that number slowly coming up.
I do have a homeopathic remedy kit to help with his anemia situation...suppose to be here tomorrow (took them almost 14 days to deliver). If we cannot use Epogen, I'd like to give this kit a try. See some good reviews on it. I am willing to try anything as long as it's safe for him.

Glad he his home and I hope he starts doing much better!! Anemia can cause the breathing issues he was having. Red blood cells carry oxygen so if there are less, there is less oxygen.

How is Casper today? I see you dropped his dose to .50. His spreadsheet is in the trash. I hope he’s ok.

Hi Elise, I am so sorry I didn't get a chance to do an update on Casper today, been crazy busy since I woke up. Casper is doing better today. Got his voice back and started talking to me again. He is drinking and eating by himself (only what he is interested). In fact, he just yelled at me half min ago, demanding his shrimp dinner.
We dropped his dose when he was in ER. His +9 today is 224. Will test him again at PMPS. I've been checking on him every night just to make sure he doesn't have any line green number.
I got a human meter today, again, didn't get a chance to update the new sheet yet. Will do that tomorrow.

So glad to see a good update! Yelling is a wonderful sign.
When you update the new sheet, remember to change the link in your signature. It goes to your Alphatrak sheet, which says that it has gone into your bin. :)

I will need to take a look at it on the computer. I didn't have the issue with Google Drive to share the ss and editing until today.
I would like to make the switch on Feb 1st, Monday if that's okay with everyone.
PMPS: 305, gave him 0.5U, will test him again at midnight.
Good night Ladies! Sweet dreams :bighug:
