Oh my goodness Eddie!!

No not emergency, but I'd test for ketones if you haven't lately, and make sure he's getting enough to eat and drink. How's he acting?

I haven't had the opportunity to test for ketones. I do have a ketone meter and test strips but again, all he did was eat and take insulin. I didn't give him the Prednisolone. Don't ask me why but we've just gone onto the BiD with it and I just am holding off

Few too many coincidences. Do you have vet appointment scheduled? I don't know what all to include, bud I'd say the standard senior panel, a GI panel (that's a bit pricey in the US at least so know that), and thyroid?

Yes, scheduled for early Feb but I think I'll call tomorrow and move it up. I'll take out the ketone meter and test. I was so worried about CKD the other day when his numbers kept rising and I was TOTALLY shocked this morning to see the black zone (it seems so awful) that I tested again. He seems fine, which is also weird but he also doesn't show symptoms with low numbers.

Yes just when you get a chance.

I can't really weigh in about the pred, but I imagine a "missed" dose here and there won't hurt.

Could be NDW I suppose but like I said too many coincidences for my liking. I found Mr Kitty's IBD/SCL on an inkling that something wasn't right, vet didn't feel GI panel was necessary but humored me as he always does. And he's just now starting to show signs of GI issues in the last two days, so I'm ahead of the ball at least

Better safe than sorry - especially since I know you're worried/anxious about his trends lately

Yes the GI panel makes sense, especially with the diarrhea...

In my experience with Mr Kitty it was the prolonged high numbers that got to him. I'm sure the swings don't feel good but hopefully temporary.

If you do want to try Levemir I'm sitting on quite a few pens that expire April 2023, I'll gladly send 1 or 2. Basically just waiting to donate them, but keeping just in case he relapses lol

just did a keto test strip: 0.2mmol/L "You are not in ketoacidosis". Well, that's a relief!
But really, I've never seen that number on either Eddie or Blue!
Thank you for the offer of Levemir. I'm going to start with the tests you recommend and then will see about switching from Lantus.
Well, that sure got me going this morning. I'll be testing again.
As far as Eddie concerned, he's eating, drinking (and not even that much), is not lethargic. When I called him to do the ketone test he was just looking for a treat that goes along with testing. Grumpy, yes, but that's about it.
Thank you!!! (an actual pic of me earlier)

Talking Eddie down off the ledge. What a day where @+4 we're at 317, which is where he's been starting the day at PMPS previously. :nailbiting:

Take a deep breath. :bighug: Eddie's not on the ledge - you are. Yesterday during the AM he had a couple steep drops. I found steep drops caused worse bounces than low numbers. Piled on top of that was the 101 and he hasn't seen a number that low for a while.

Eddie needs his prednisolone, I'd give it to him.

As for high numbers, it's prolonged high numbers, not temporary higher numbers that are damaging for the kidneys, according to Neko's IM vet. I too had the same concerns. A geri-panel (includes T4) an GI panel won't hurt. If you want to do a GI panel, call first, as they might need him to be fasting.

@FrostD Not sure Levemir/insulin would cross the border well from individual to individual. Plus it's pretty cheap here, Marks has a huge mark up on what the cost here is.

Thanks, Wendy. :) Maybe I was on the (l)edge but seeing that black cell appear was a shock! I'll inquire as to the GI panel when I call the vet but will, nonetheless, order the geri-panel up front.

I finally did give him his Prednisolone but decided on +5 hours after insulin since Pred often creates resistance. I'm going to try this timing for awhile since he was getting it once a day for the longest time.

Steep drops can equal worse bounces. I need to remember that.

SO, @+8 274 and PMPS 335. I was never so happy to see numbers in the 300s after this morning. Hoping Eddie gets some traction overnight and we can start a slow descent from this morning's peak.

I'll be glad to see the end of this day. To recap for tonight @PMPS 335 and @+2 356. I'll say it once more, like it's a charm, I'm hoping Eddie can regain some equilibrium overnight and into tomorrow.
@Bandit's Mom What do you think?
Thanks, everyone, for creating calm.
