I think we need a STICKER with how to calculate the values for carbs and minerals and where people can verify or update on food formulas changes. Depending on tables that contain more than one company can be tricky since people have other things to do instead of updating it every day. On the other hand, it seems that at times we receive conflicting information which is detrimental to our babies. At this point I do not know what table to believe in because I do not know how to calculate the values and when I try to calculate, I simply obtain different values. It is obvious that I do not know what I am doing, so if there is a right way of doing it, please let me know.
Just saying...

I think one issue is that there is so many new brands being issued all the time...

Best of luck to you in sorting is all out. My 'go-to' is Dr. Lisa's food chart - she spends a great deal of time volunteering to work on that chart - you might want to contact her and suggest the above.

Hope you have a good day Laura!

There is a way, but as far as I'm concerned it's just to hard. I even tried to put it in excel to auto calculate but it got to confusing.

Then you have some say it should be done in DMB or DME, or As fed. So who knows which way. Personally As Fed seems likely to me as that is what is actually eaten. Dr Lisa now does it as fed, but her chart doesn't have all the news ones and again formulas has changed. Her chart is now 3 yrs old. Some companies do not give out the info you need.

Tanya ckd site has quite a bit ordered by phos count, but has carbs listed. So it's a lot of scrolling to find your food if looking for csrbs. Trying to figure out how to export it to excel to make it sortable. So far no luck. It appears her chart is done yearly. New one due out in February.

I myself, use an online calculator that comes out pretty close in carbs. So I use that when looking for new foods. If kitties seem to like it, I contact the companies and ask for the values by all 3 methods. Some give it to me, some don't.

By the way there is a stickie: here

@Olive & Paula I would like to send you the info I received from Vital Essentials with the carbs and everything (let me know if I can send it by email, please). I can say one thing, the carbs do not look the same as in your excel. It was that moment when I realized that maybe I do not know how to calculate correctly even the carbs, so for minerals I probably such even worse because nothing from what I calculated comes even close to the values out there. By the way, Wellness does have the data in pdf for every product on their website but I could not match the data with Dr. Pierson's, that is why I say I am definitely missing something or making a mistake.

@Olive & Paula Thank you so much for the stickie. really helpful. what about the phosphorus? are you looking at as fed or DM when you choose for Olive?

I look at both. They are usually pretty close. Then I look at the carbs and see what those are. Decide carbs first, and if it's a flavor she might eat. If the phos is to high I just limit how much of that food she gets. But you need to have a lot of flavors and or different foods to do it. I use 7 different foods and she gets a different one each time.

FF savory I don't have confirmation on yet, but looks promising. She loves those, so when she gets a pill I use that food to put it in. Very small amount.I

FF chicken, all cats pretty much stopped eating it. Very high in phos.

FF beef, they all like. Very high in phos though. I use that for shot time because it's when she gets the most quantity; breakfast get glandex mixed in and dinner gets the psyllium husk mixed in. All other snacks are the low phos under 220 that I can find that most my cats will eat.

You can send it to me. Watch you inbox. I just got the confirmation last week from VE.

My cats don't like Wellness at all. So I don't bother looking at it anymore.

@Olive & Paula Thank you very much for the info. Looking into your Excel I must say a lot of work and trial and error probably happened there in terms of what they like or not. Can you please tell me what they prefer now and also what snacks are you giving them? I am asking because Chanel also seem to enjoy beef, hopefully she may get inspired by Olive's & company menu :bighug:

Besides what's listed above they get;

FF Medley Primavera white meat chicken. Tux doesn't like this one
Mitten Morsels Beef (Pet Supply Plus Brand) it's new. They will eat this about twice a week . Tux might not eat it.
FF Savory Centers Beef Flavor and Chicken Flavor. They all like this.
Paws Chicken Pate (grocery store brand) Sometimes Tux won't eat it
Paws Turkey & Giblets they might eat it twice a week. They like it for a change.
FF Beef, they all eat
FF Chicken, they are walking away from
FF turkey & giblets, no one eats
I and Love and You Beef and Chicken, they like it for a change of pace.
ProPlan Focus Urinary Health Beef and chicken , Olive and PJ like it for a change of pace. Tux eats one meal then done with it for a few days.

Only treats which aren't really treats is the VE freeze dried nibs. Ollie gets 4 pieces after getting subq fluids and if really bothering me in between meals. Tux doesn't like them. PJ can take it leave them.
Snacks are small amounts of their canned foods.

None like anything with liver. I won't feed anything with fish in title.

@Olive & Paula WOW, you are so prepared. My pantry for Chanel is not that generous, she still wants her Fancy Feast no matter what (it has 327 mg Phosphorus so I hope I am not harming her during the process). Definitely need to get on a shopping spree this weekend. Your menu looks impressive and Tux seems to be a foodie :)

Not really. Tux is the fussy one. Tripper only like the Ff Beef. I want them use to different foods in case they all of a sudden decide not to eat one. And variety so they don't get bored.
