WCR: All is good with Blackie. Will be monitoring her a bit closely this morning for the first few hours just because.

Daisy Update: She's hanging in there, however, she gave me a huge scare last night at around 9:30. I went to go and check on her, and normally when I walk into the bedroom, she's laying there, but I may see a movement of an ear, or something. I didn't see anything. She was laying there on the bed, with her head on the bed. I petted her, and she didn't move. I put my hand under her head, and again she didn't move. I honestly thought that I had lost her then and there. She did raise her head at that point, and looked at me in bewilderment it seems. She didn't eat last night; in fact the last time she ate was at the PMPS time. I did get some tuna water in her, and some warmed milk (I know it's never a good idea to give a kitty milk, but I had to try something to get something in her system), which she lapped up readily. She had a small treat of shredded cheddar cheese (again, I know it's not good for her, or any cat, but again I needed to try something to get her to eat), and she ate that earlier in the day.

After going to bed at around 10, I woke up with a start at around just past 2:00 a.m., and went go check on her. I felt her body, and she was cold. I honestly thought I was going to lose her then. I have a clean pair of old thermal bottoms that don't fit that I've put overtop of her (she's small enough that the wide part of the bottoms will fit over her little body nicely) to help keep her warm. She lays under a window that leaks air, and right now, the cold front is coming back, and that window leaks cold air. After feeling her body, I went and grabbed a towel, and placed it singly over her to help keep the warmth in. I checked her after a few moments, and it wasn't warming her quickly enough, so I doubled it. Then left her for a few more moments, and talked to her. I tried to be quiet so as not to wake up DH. I started breaking down right then and there. I even went to go and get her a small bit of food (I weigh it before giving it to her so that I know how much she eats if anything.... I know.. It probably sounds excessive to some of you, however, I'm trying desperately to save her... I'm feeling very vulnerable and desperate right now). Unfortunately, my gut wrenching sobbing woke DH up. He asked me what was the matter, and I told him that she's refusing everything. Thankfully, he did go back to bed, though. As did I at around 3:30, but I didn't sleep... More like just laid there.

This morning, at around the +1 feeding time, she did come out to eat, but didn't eat in the kitchen, and wouldn't touch the Friskies. I measured out a small amount of FF (the cod one), and she ate about 3 to almost 4g of it. It's a start.

I'm trying so very hard to back of a bit on trying to feed her every hour, and let nature take its course. I want her to get better so desperately that it's killing me.

Yesterday, I did some research on both the Covenia and the Doxycycline. I found something on the Covenia which is rather eye-opening, and startling:

A total of 291 cats, ranging in age from 2.4 months (1 cat) to 21 years, were included in the field study safety analysis. Adverse reactions reported in cats treated with CONVENIA and the active control are summarized in Table 3.

Table 3: Number Of Cats* With Adverse Reactions Reported During The Field Study With Convenia.
Adverse Reaction
CONVENIA (n=147)
Active Control (n=144)

Vomiting
10 out of 14 cats <<<< Very high probability to common

Diarrhea
7 out of 26 cats <<< about 25% probability

Anorexia/Decreased Appetite
6 out of 6 cats <<<<<< Absolutely definite decrease in appetite.

Lethargy
6 out of 6 cats <<<< Absolutely will have it.

Hyper/Acting Strange
1 of 1 cats <<<<< Might get it.

Inappropriate Urination
1 out of 0 cats <<<< Very remote

*Some cats may have experienced more than one adverse reaction or more than one occurrence of the same adverse reaction during the study.

Four CONVENIA cases had mildly elevated post-study ALT (1 case was elevated pre-study). No clinical abnormalities were noted with these findings.

Twenty-four CONVENIA cases had normal pre-study BUN values and elevated post-study BUN values (37 - 39 mg/dL post-study). There were 6 CONVENIA cases with normal pre- and mildly to moderately elevated post-study creatinine values. Two of these cases also had an elevated post-study BUN. No clinical abnormalities were noted with these findings.

One CONVENIA-treated cat in a separate field study experienced diarrhea post-treatment lasting 42 days. The diarrhea resolved.

Foreign Market Experience:: TAKE SPECIAL NOTICE HERE

The following adverse events were reported voluntarily during post-approval use of the product in dogs and cats in foreign markets: death, tremors/ataxia, seizures, anaphylaxis, acute pulmonary edema, facial edema, injection site reactions (alopecia, scabs, necrosis, and erythema), hemolytic anemia, salivation, pruritus, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and inappetance.

Daisy is showing very clear signs of lethargy, and inappetance. There are times when she'll get out of bed, stretch, walk around some, and then head right back to bed, and lay there for a large amount of the day. I just really hope that she doesn't pass on. Thursday will be the 2 week mark, but the drug stays in their system for 65 days, apparently from what I've read on another site.

I don't know why I agreed to the use of the Covenia in the first place. Had I known this fact about it, I would have refused it. I think it should be taken off the market.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone to have great #s... For everyone to be OTJ.

Morning Angela ~O) ~O) ~O)

What a beautiful start for Blackie. Surf well little one.

I hope all will be well with Daisy. My thoughts are with you. I have been through the convenia with my cats. Long story.... but Mannie had it three times, two of those times we had no other choice. he did OK with it, no adverse reactions. I'm not a big fan of the drug either, but have been told that the first two weeks is the effective duration period, and that yes it can linger for days after. I hope all will be well with Daisy. Her eating today is a good sign. Hugs to you.

I am sending prayers for you and Daisy. You have really been through so much lately. I agree Convenia needs to be taken off the market. If I am correct its indicated use is for skin conditions but vets use it for everything else simply because of the convenience of it.

So glad to hear that Blackie is doing well for you Angela!
Sending many more prayers, hugs, healing vines and snowflakes that Daisy does indeed pull through this and starts to improve in every way. :YMHUG:

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

Sending tons of prayers for Daisy. I agree about Convenia, too. Maybe you should have yet another chat with your vetty and express that you are concerned that she is having an adverse reaction to the drug. Maybe syringe feeding will help her get over this...I don't have any first-hand experience with it, but others here do.

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

Piling on the vines for sweet little Daisy. I so hope she can pull through this. Looks like Blackie is doing her part to stay out of trouble while you work through it all. :YMHUG:

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

I've been phoning around for a product called Bene-Bac, which is a prebiotic to aid in the digestive tract, but nobody carries it around here.

In the meantime, I've made an appt. to see a new vet this afternoon at 2, and the person I talked to will be calling (or has called by this time) our regular vet for Daisy's record. Since this morning, Daisy hasn't had any interest in anything, including warmed milk. I need another opinion, and I can only hope and pray that I'm not too late.

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

I've thought about syringe feeding her, but with with orally medicating her with the Doxy, I'm afraid that she's going to resent me further. As it is, I'm already trying to feed her and am trying about 5 different flavors of food that I thought she may like. I'll wait to see what this new vet suggests. I hope that he'll have positive news.

Thank you all for the continued prayers. I really need them right now for her.

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

(((Rhiannon))), We are sending tons of healing vines for Daisy. I hope that she will begin to eat soon. Have you tried baby food?
Now that you know the dangers of Convenia, you should make sure that "No Convenia" is put into your vet's files on each one of your kitties. Hopefully it will be out of Daisy's system on Thursday. The general wisdom here is that it remains in the system for 14 days.

Thinking of you, Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 01/21 Blackie AMPS 124 +1 82 +2 66 (Daisy Update.. Longi

Thank you, Ella (my name isn't Rhiannon ).

Right now, I'm biding my time before I have to make the trip to the bedroom to collect Daisy, and put her in the carrier. She's currently napping on her pillow under the window, underneath a couple of towels. I tried feeding her some tuna water, but to no avail. DH emphasized that he wants the BW reran to see what's going on, and if anything was missed by our old vet. I've talked to my Mom, and she concurs that there is something unduly wrong with Daisy, and advised me to go there with an open, neutral mind. Kind of hard to do when you're an extremely nervous wreck like I am right now.

I will post more when I get back from this new vet's office. I can only hope that he'll have more positive answers than what I've been given.

{{{Angela}}}:

Blackie, you are a very good kitty for putting up such lovely numbers so Mama can concentrate on Daisy. Surf now, sweetie, and don't go any lower!

Sending many good vetty and appy vines for Daisy. I know just how you're feeling and wish I could give you a hug in person. Hang in there. Maybe this vet will see something the other missed. Have they done any x-rays or scans? I'm concerned about an obstruction or inflammation in the bile ducts or intestines. Hope she gets a thorough going-over and you get some good answers. Please keep us posted!
