WCR: All is good with Blackie. Didn't expect this AMPS #, but I'll definitely take it. I've added 1 tsp. of water to her +1 meal, and mixed it. She lapped it all up. Guess I'll be doing that from now on.

Daisy Update: Took her off the Doxycycline last night again. She seems fine for about 24-48 hours when she's first starting the meds, but then afterwards she looks like she's nauseated, and doesn't want to eat. She was laying in bed all day after the morning's dose yesterday, and ate only 53g total of wet food. I couldn't get her to eat until about 9 last night when she ate about 3g of FF food. She's not even interested in the Friskies wet right now. Last night, I left a bowl of water next to her pillow on the floor in case she wanted a sip. Not sure if she drank anything or not. When I woke up at around 4:30 this morning, Last night, and this morning I picked her up and put her in the LB to do her business. She peed. I hadn't seen her go by herself during that time. Afterwards, I gave her about 10g of wet, but she only ate 3g. At the 6:00 a.m. mark when they all get fed, she came trotting out of the bedroom. I was elated! :-D However, she didn't eat a whole lot.

I know that one of the side affects of the Doxy is lack of urination, as well as nausea, or lack of appetite. I think this is doing more harm then good. I will be calling the vet's office this morning to explain this to them. I need another course of action with this bacterial infection, and I don't want to harm her in the process. I don't want to lose another kitty. NOT for a very long time.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone to have great #s... For everyone to be OTJ.

I hope the vet can give you another AB for Daisy that won't affect her appy. Sending prayers and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Looking lovely in green today, Blackie!

ABs are so hard on our babies. I hope the vetty can come up with another solution. I know last year, when Petey had a horrible reaction to his pre-dental Clavamox (one dose and he was down for the count...no eating, totally nauseated, sluggish...the works), the vet gave him a penicillin injection - it wasn't Convenia, but good old fashioned penicillin. Of course, for him, it was preventative and not therapeutic, but maybe something like that is an option for Daisy.

Have a great day, Angela!

I called the vet's office about Daisy, and was asked, "Why would we want to put her back on the Doxy after taking her off of it?" I tried to explain to her that after she had told me to take it off her on Wednesday, then wait a few days to see if she'd do better without it. However, those "few days" didn't do well, and she was back on it again on Friday night, pretty much per the vet's suggestion. However, she lost her appetite after a couple of days, and now I'm trying to get her to eat again. I haven't given her the Doxy since last night. I don't care to see it again, to be honest.

From what I understood from what the vet said on the 9th, she suggested that I could put Daisy on the Doxy or wait a couple of days and see how she does with just the Covenia shot. I called the vet's office on Saturday and told them that I wouldn't need it. Monday morning, Daisy wasn't looking too good, so I called them up and asked for the Doxy afterall, which was picked up that morning. I started the regiment Monday morning, and she was on it for 5 doses until I noticed that it was affecting her appetite. I took her off it per the vet's suggestion, and if she looked like she needed to be put on it again after a few days, then to do so. It was about 48 hours when I noticed that she wasn't looking too good again so I put her back on it on Friday night. Now, she's back off of it, permanently.

It was my understanding that the vet didn't take much stock in the Covenia shot when she gave it to Daisy that day, and suggested that I try the Doxy, which I thought was a bit odd in the first place.

I thought I trusted the vet, but now I'm really having second thoughts about her capabilities. I'm going to wait and see how Daisy does. I think it's time that I take her to the other vet if there is no improvement by this Thursday.

HI guys .. wow, such a nice start this morning blackie! I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with this vet .. I hope that daisy starts feeling better asap, but that if she doesn't a new vet can help get her on the right track ..

Yay, Blackie - great numbers this morning! So nice of you to make sure your Mama bean doesn't have to worry about you, on top of Daisy's issues.

Angela, if you are not happy with what the vet is saying or doing, I would definitely switch to another vet. I have had that experience, too, and I know it's not easy to switch, but just because they have all that schooling does not mean they know what they're doing in one specific instance. Go with your gut, and I'll be keeping Daisy in my prayers. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
