GA 01/19 Cole - my update and thanks

Hi to everyone - it's almost 2 weeks since we said goodbye to Cole. I finally feel like I can do a post, and I am so thankful to @Butters & Lyla for giving everyone updates and letting you know what was happening. It means a lot to me that so many of you sent me notes and support, even when I found it impossible to reply other than with a Like.

This community was my life line when Cole was diagnosed with diabetes last September. When his numbers were so high, I remember thinking I would never need to worry about him dropping into those low low numbers. Until he did - and I realized I really didn't know what to do despite reading everything on the board. I got help from many people especially @Wendy&Neko @tiffmaxee and @Butters & Lyla - and got through those challenging weeks.

Cole had a number of health issues last year, prior to the diabetes and we tried to sort out what was happening for months. It's frustrating that after his clean MRI, CT scan and spinal tap in August that it was still a mystery as to what was going on. We hoped that it was 'just' the diabetes but even as he started into remission, it became clear that he was starting to suffer. I think our hardest responsibility is knowing when it's the right time to say goodbye.

Thank you to everyone for your help, your humour, your likes. This is an amazing group of people and I am blessed to have found you. @Butters & Lyla - thank you for your friendship and just being an amazing human.

I wish everyone and your kitties lots of health, and successful OTJ trials, and hugs. I'm still hanging around online sometimes - it's hard to stop checking in.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, it's so nice to hear from you. I've missed your presence here so much, as you joined the board around the same time as I did. It broke my heart in many small pieces to hear about Cole. I love seeing your likes when I know you are grieving. Thank you for continuing to visit and cheering us on. Hugs to you!

Oh (((Elizabeth))). So good to hear from you and sending you so many virtual hugs :bighug: I hope you, Mark, Dax, & Teddy are all hanging in there the best you can. It really seems like just yesterday we were trying to figure out what foods you had in your pantry :cat: I also remember plotting how I was going to drop hints to convert you from AT2 to a human meter ;)

And, I'm really sorry that feline diabetes brought you to FDMB but at the same time so very grateful. You are such a kind hearted person and such a loving mama bean. Thank you for being you.

I think our hardest responsibility is knowing when it's the right time to say goodbye.
This is true for sure. It's such a huge responsibility and I admire your grace through it all.

Hang in there, Elizabeth :bighug: Cole is running free and watching over you cat_wings>o

It's so good to hear from you Elizabeth. We care as much about the caregivers as we do the cats and it's a hard time for you.:bighug: It's so hard to lose a sugar cat - they burrow themselves so deep in our hearts.
I'm still hanging around online sometimes - it's hard to stop checking in.
Tell me about it. I think we need an FDMB Anonymous group.

I was so sad when I heard about Cole’s diagnosis and passing. I know exactly how you feel. I kept lurking on and off until I was able to help a little. I remember asking Julie who helped me a lot with Max about still hanging around and she said she was paying it forward. I’m doing the same. If you want to share any memories feel free. We are here for you. :bighug:

I'm so glad to see you posted although it made my eyes watery (or maybe that's because butters is next to me chopping onions).
It was a gift and an honour that you allowed me to help you during an incredibly difficult time. I want to say I feel so blessed to have met you and Cole (and Mark, Dax and Teddy too of course) but I wish more than anything that it had been under different circumstances:bighug:.

Thanks Katherine - agree that I felt like we were going through a lot of the same things at the same time :) since we joined pretty much together. I hope all is well with you and Ruby.

I eventually did make that move but I realize I was exceptionally slow :) Thank you for the very kind words Susanne

Thanks Elise - really appreciate the support and thoughts. I know it will get easier and hope I can also pay it forward :cat:

Me too - there are no onions in play here but I must be having a sympathetic reaction :bighug:
