01/19 Casper PMPS 265 0.5U +2 36, +3 151, +4 153, +5 71, +6 156

They gave 1.0 last night. If you can monitor and feed hc I think I would go with .75 but if it scares you try .50. The count starts over. .

I didn't give him 1U. The doctor at the ER did, after we repeated ourselves multiple times that we are in tight control of fine-tuning his dose, we are doing 0.5U/dose only. However, the doctor decided to go with 1U since his BG last night was over the chart.

Copy! 0.5U to be on the safe side. We did see some 100s numbers with his infection situation, now he is on the antibiotic, afraid the 0.75 may bring him low while the antibiotic is doing its work.

OK. But we need to stick to a dose for 6 cycles. The 1U was ofcourse, not your doing. Bur unfortuanately reset the cycle count!
 
It’s fine. We can increase in 6 cycles. The 1.0 last night will influence today’s cycle most likely. Get a +2 and we can go from there.

About the epogen, I’m not sure it’s needed yet. It has its severe side effects so you dint want to start too soon and your labs show the anemia is regenerative. If correct it should not be used. Aranesp has a better track record of not causing antibodies than epogen.

This is somewhere I am quite confused about, at the ACCESS ER in Woodland Hills, they told us his anemia was caused by the fluid that he was receiving, kinda like diluted his blood content, and Casper needed the fluid to treat his CKD.
Over here the report stated: "likely regenerative"...
I checked the Aranesp, it's $1,700 correct?
We are making some fresh-cooked chicken liver and start adding the pet's vitamin B12 complex, hopefully, that can help with the situation with remedies rather than medication.

You can get Aranesp a lot cheaper. It’s been a long time since I’ve researched this, over 11 years. Check on tanyascrf.
 
Before you buy it you need to make sure that all this isn’t due to an infection. I would cancel the epogen though if it was ordered

I am not sure if the vets even know what caused the anemia :facepalm: The one who discharged him on the 13th even said we don't need to worry about it as long as Casper is eating and drinking. I was like.....SERIOUSLY?!
 
Hi Elise,

His PMPS reads 265, gave him some DM, then 0.5U as scheduled. Should I test him again at +2?
I wanted to make sure I understand the protocol:
Check before shot, give shot, check +2:
1) if +2 number is higher than preshot number, rest;
2) if +2 number is lower than preshot number, more monitoring is required, maybe every 2 hours?

If +2 is lower than the preshot get a +3. It about the same or only slightly lower get a +4. Then see how low he is and decide if more tests are needed. Do you have an auto feeder. If so you can out food in it and avoid the need to test as much once you learn how he handles the insulin.

I don't have an auto feeder, I can set the alarm to check on him. Plus, he doesn't eat by himself anymore, we have to syringe feed him. He just hates the diabetics food. Will need to get more Fancy Feast classic and chicken fillet for him tomorrow.

I am hoping to get some guidance on Casper's number. PMPS was 265, did the routine +2, the number went down to 36.
I gave him honey, etc., the numbers went up in the past 2 hour; at +5, his BG reads: 71.
Should I keep monitor him every hour? Or it can be done in every 2 hours?
Pls advise, thanks!

OK. That's why. I guess one more test after an hour to see if he stays up after the carbs wear off. What a rollercoaster ride for you!

I would keep testing for a bit because he’s going up and down a bit and he could drop again.
