Thanks for all of your explanations and ideas last night. I will hold Sam at .5 for now. Should I hold him there for a week unless he goes to the 40s? Unless anyone thinks differently I'll follow Cathy's suggestion to give him a little HC at intervals in the morning to see if we can avoid going down so quickly. If at +1 it seems to be going ok should I still give hc or just some regular?

Also, I looked at auto feeders but didn't seem to find one for wet food. Ideas??

Hi Donna:

Yes...I would hold him there a week unless he goes into the 40s. After a week or a dip in the 40s, we can reassess.

Typically we would expect a food spike at +1 and then a drop at +2 would tell you he means business. However, I see on his SS that he doesn't always get that food spike at +1.

I think 1/2 tsp karo when he's in the 60s might be a little much....I'd try the foods and see if that helps him. You may HAVE to go back to the karo but hopefully just some food will stop the drop. Hope.

Re: 01/14 Sam Siam amps 88

Thanks Marjorie. I guess I was using the Karo because I was worried about diarrhea from the last hc food I gave him. I will look for some without the grains etc, just the higher carbs & see if he tolerates that better. I'm so excited to see his numbers. I appreciate the reminders to go slooooow! ;-)

Just love that Idahoan neighbor of mine! You can always count on her for a giggle!

That's right!! You're in Kent! Howdy, neighbor!! how did I forget that? I spent the last many years in your lovely state...
I miss it :-D

on the feeder question...a lot of folks use small ceramic dishes that fit into the feeder compartments so
they work for canned food.

I'll try to find the condo where they posted some links to the dishes they found :-D

Most of the HC foods contain gluten. Using Karo or honey is fine. I use 1 - 2 drops depending on where the numbers are.

seems to me a lot of folks use a feeder like this...

and then small ceramic dishes (like condiment dishes) set in the compartment.
Ella (& Rusty) mentions that her feeder allows for a freezer pack under the food...

hope that's helpful...

Donna: my apologies....I did not recall he had an issue with the gravy. So yes....Sienne is right on target because Gabby also has problems with gravy.

I need to make a mental note that he doesn't do well with the gravy.

Re: 01/14 Sam Siam amps 88

Thanks Celi for the suggestion on a feeder. Will check it out. So where did you live in WA? If I had my choice it definitely would not be Kent!! We head to the hills as often as we can to get a piece of the beautiful country Washington is know for. Sienne, thanks for the tips on amounts to give of honey or Karo. I know it should be a little, but really didn't know how little. And Marjorie, really...you actually cannot remember EVERYTHING about EVERYONE on here, what's up with that?! Ha ha, just a lil joke ya know. No worries at all, I don't know how you keep it all straight to begin with. You have been such a wonderful help to so many of us!

Btw, food question again...since Sam has been such a hungry guy due to his high bgs, now that he is leveling out, about how much food should I expect to give him each day? I try to space it out as much as my schedule allows. Right now he is eating about a whole can of the 13 oz Friskies a day. Trying to cut that back cause it seems like a lot. Last time we were at the vet he weighed 13 lbs. I think he may have put on a bit but he isn't fat, I don't think. Also, found out that putting water in his food to make it like gravy so it will last...well, just doesn't work for Sammy. He just slurps up all the gravy he can get and is left with just stuff that will dry up quickly. Funny little guy!

sam's looking awesome, as usual!

that celi gets around - turns out she used to live in oregon too! who knew? perhaps she's got the wandering feet!
