Continuing yesterday's conversation:
So the Why Eddie points to his particular complications. I was reading that "Early-delayed brain effects [can] occur 2 weeks to 3 months after irradiation, and animals present with stupor or neurologic abnormalities that may be similar to those at initial presentation.11 The pathogenesis is thought to be changes in blood-brain barrier permeability and transient demyelination resulting from radiationdamage to oligodendrocytes" ( https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1939-1676.2006.tb00714.x ).
That paper was written on research done in 1999 to 2002, back before CSU had an SRT machine. So it was on conventional radiation therapy. One of the primary reasons people went to SRT was to try to avoid the side effects, such as the ones documented in this paper, than happen in conventional radiation therapy. This damage has not been documented, that I've seen, with SRT.

Side note, Susan LaRue, one of the authors, was head of radiology when I went to CSU.

The radiation oncologist was not referencing that paper. It was just something I was reading. In any case I think you can see from the type of acromegaly Eddie has and the treatments he’s had why caution is called for.

Agreed, Eddie probably had two SRT treatment much closer together than any other kitty. There probably is no research on whether he really needs the higher dose of pred for as long as he's been prescribed. So it's a precaution that may or may not be needed. So, one more month of it?

Yes, I think the reason for the shorter duration is because of his unique condition. I think the vet wants to ensure that there's not a perfect storm of radiation, inflammation and demyelination. And, yes, just over a month to go.
