J.D. seemed to feel pretty good at work yesterday. He ate a little more than normal at work, which usually isn't much. He cleaned the food that Ginger left in her bowls right away when we returned home last night at +3.5. I added a bit of FF and he a little of that, and then wouldn't eat anymore. I gave him Ondansetron and Cyproheptadine at +4.5 and he still refused food.

This morning, I gave him some bupe, and he ate a little bit of baby food beef & broth.
It's hard to go to work, when he's not feeling well.
I did not see any poos yesterday from J.D. They were a little stinky and on the wettish side the two days before yesterday, so I am thinking he's having a flare of pancreatitis.

Please send healing vines, eating vines, feel better vines to J.D., today.

Oh Dyana,

Sending prayers for J.D to eat. I hope he eats something before you go to work so you will not worry all day. Sending poo vines as well. I am praying it is not pancreatitis and that he just has a little upset tummy.

I ran (drove) home mid-day to check on J.D. No food was eaten. I gave him a bunch of Whisker Lickins cat treats and some bupe and syringed some more MaxCal.

I am concerned because, now I have discovered that my wonderful syringes.. the plunger doesn't got all the way to the top anymore?, and even using the calipers, I am not sure if they have always been this way, or if this is something new and even with a magnifying glass, I don't know if I gave him the correct dose. The dose is so small. Can anyone recommend a better syringe for small doses, maybe? He's on what looks like the zero line on the ReliOn.

Question: I called the vet and was able to pick up some Cerenia on the way home. She says she loves cerenia and it is to be given once every 24 hours.

I told her I would like to give it in the morning, so that J.D. feels better all day, but I feel like I should give it to him now.
He is a little woozy, but not too much from the bupe.

She said I can continue the bupe, but can stop the Ondansetron for now.

I need J.D. to eat more. And to eat more than treats. He has had a bunch of treats today.

I am hoping to get a total of 1/2 can of MaxCal in him today. Is that enough?

I just need support.

Do you think I should start the Cerenia tonight instead of in the morning and then give it at nighttime every 24 hours?

Is JD more active during the night it day? I'd give it when I think he'll benefit from it the most. I understand you wanting to give it now though...the sooner he gets it, the sooner he feels better.

Oh, so sorry Dyana, that JD is not feeling well. I will send some eating vines to your boy. I know how sick and worried you are that he won't eat. Not sure about the cerenia tho. I think 1/2 can of maxcat should be good....any amount that you can get into him will be good.

Sorry that JD isn't feeling well, but good to see the LB action is happening. That may make him feel better. Truckloads of appy and feel better vines coming his way.

I've heard people recommend the Terumo Thinpro's for small doses. There was a discussion a couple of days ago in Ozy's condo about syringes to use for small R doses.

Maxcal is 333 calories per can, not sure how much JD normally gets a day. I think if you got half in tonight that should be OK but a bit short for the daily amount of calories. How much does JD weight? Neko gets around 200-240 calories a day and she's 14.5 lbs.

(((Dyana))), I'm so sorry I have no good advice. I could never convince Checks to eat when he didn't want to.
I hope someone comes on to help with tips.

I had a few things, like Fortiflora, freeze dried chicken, ground up..... or freeze-dried liver, also ground up, to sprinkle on his food.
I take it, J.D. doesn't want the Young Again either?

Hope someone has advice about Cerenia, I never used it. Seems like lots of people on here use it.
Maybe if you change your subject line to ask differently for help?

I have never used Cerenia either, but if it makes J.D. feel better, I would give it tonight to start the "feel better" as soon as you can.
I use the Terumo syringes - used to use the Relion, but the line is much finer on the Terumo, and I think it is easier to measure smaller doses.
Does J.D. like any kind of fresh meat, either cooked or raw? What about liverwurst? That is something I use for pilling - everyone likes it. I think you already feed baby food.

I'd give the Cerenia now and give it to him tomorrow at the time that you want to give it consistently. I don't think the dosing every 24 hours is too critical, like with Lantus. But I would give it to him about the same time.

We give it to Zener 4 days per week, 4 mg. we just increased from 3 days per week. Our vet said every other day but it's easier for us with our schedules to pick the days when we are home in the afternoon. It seems to work best for Zener to give it a couple of hours before the shot and it has time to take affect.

When we started, he got a shot every day for 5 days, then went to every other day. The shots use a big needle and it stings so it was rather traumatic for us but it sure helped him feel better and eat more.

The 1/2 can MaxCal would be the total for the day. I syringed some this morning, and some this afternoon, and am hoping to finish the 1/2 can by tonight. He normally eats around 6 to 8 one quarter cans of FF a day (so 1.5 to 2 cans of FF a day). He weight 10lbs 12oz.

I will give him the cerenia (it's in a pill form) now and again in 9.5 hours tomorrow at AMPS.

I am off to the store to try to find some liver wurst or lunch meat or something he might like.

So very sorry J.D. is not feeling well and not eating well. Sending major healing vines that he starts eating and feels better immediately.

I don't have any experience with the Cerenia so cannot help there, but can help w/lots of support and healing vines and eating wishes, all coming J.D.'s way.

And major hugs of support for you Dyana. It's hard enough when they are not well, and to have to leave them to go to work, when all you want to do is stay home and take care of them, that just makes it that much harder. Hang in there my friend, J.D. could not be in better hands.

Marje and I both use Terumo syringes. You may need to make an adjustment based on any differences between the Terumo and Relion. When I switched from Monojects, there was a big difference in dose due to the Monojects having a hub at the top.

If yours is one of them, ADW will call you and you can get your vet to phone it in.

The FF Classic are all around 80-90ish calories per can so he's normally eating somewhere from 120-180 calories a day. Half a can of MaxCal sounds about right. Good luck finding something tasty. Lobster or shrimp?

I used these Terumos and they are great for small doses - any doses, of course. the barrel is thinner so the numbers are more spread apart and easier to see. they are also fairly consistent in their markings. http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/terumo-thinpro-insulin-syringe_5891_112.htm If you need them yesterday, ADW has fast shipping for a price.

We had great success with the cerenia for punkin. it made a ton of difference when he felt icky and i gave it to him a number of times. i hope it helps JD.

I went to the store and bought some of that expensive Tuna with ONLY Water, some steak (that I will broil tomorrow for him), a bunch of different Fancy Feast cans (fish flavors and gravy lovers and grilled, all kinds of favorites that he doesn't get often (20 for $10.00, so I had to buy 20 cans)), some cat treats that he has been eating (even though they are so illegal for a diabetic, he's eating them), and a container of Oscar Meyer Roast Beef (I called them a long time ago and inquired and they don't add onions or garlic to their seasonings).
I got home, and J.D. ate some of the roast beef. I tried to give him some more of the MaxCal, but he kept pushing my spoon away with his front paw. I gave him a couple treats.
Then, I took a plate and I opened a can of FF Flaked Shrimp & Fish and put half out on the plate. J.D. ate some of it ! :)

I just remembered that Jamie said Jupiter ate FF Appetizer when he wasn't eating anything else after the surgery or the chemo....
It' doesn't look too carby, but I don't know the carb contents.
Maybe J.D. may like Appetizer line too.....

Eat, JD, eat!!! I hope his appetite will be much better tomorrow.

I suspect the Terumos will be very different than the Relions. Terumos have a much thinner barrel so that will affect the dose since all the syringes are inaccurate.

Just sending JD a ton of vines and huge and support for you.
