I called the vet Monday morning & made an appointment for Panzer for 10am. They called back & asked if I had gotten his rabies vaccine & I said no he was sick for a couple of weeks, I was sick we got snowed in & my grandson that lives 45mins away that I only get to see at sporting events had basketball games the same time as the clinic & because he's only 6yrs old he only has 6 games. I was crying & begging at this point saying please he's going to die. She said let me talk to the vet & the techs, she called me back & said they said no I begged against & I went to far & said if he dies not only is this going to be on me but it going to be on you guys to & I hope you can live with that & hung up on them. I looked through my contacts & found the vet that they went to before that now had new owners & I called them & they said to bring him in at 945am so I did. The other vet that I told off sent me & the vet I went to Panzers records so they quit me which is fine I didn't intend to go back anyways, I called today & left a message asking them to send me & the other vet Spooks records as well & they did.

We get there & vet tech asks me what's been going on & what all meds he takes puts it all in the computer & goes to the back she comes back in with the vet & the vet was concerned that he might be in DKA & wanted to keep him & monitor him & do a fructoseamine test. I pull out my phone & I show her my spreadsheet & say there's no need for a fructoseamine test I test him 8-10xs a day. She said well I still concerned he might have ketones, I said he doesn't have ketones never has. He has chronic pancreatitis & that's what this is. I said I need a senior panel & a urinalysis & diabetic cats in need is paying for it, So they leave the room & come back & she says okay we can do one of 3 things a senior panel & Urinalysis two monitor him for DKA & I don't remember the third option. I said option one & give him a cerenia shot & fluids if he needs them. So they take in the back & take his blood & urine & I could hear him whailing in the other room. She brings him back & then we wait, I thought we were just waiting on meds but they ran the blood work & urinalysis in house. An hour goes by & they finally come back in & she says well his blood work is not to bad kidney numbers are a little high & named off some other ones that are always high. She said he does have a UTI as well but no ketones, which makes me feel better. I asked her about fluids & she said he's not dehydrated & his heart sounds good. I asked if she was able to look in his mouth & she laughed & said noLOL of course they had to put a towel over his head & font paws & hold him down too, that's my little Panzer little brat.

I forget what the name of the antibiotic that they put him on for the UTI & I'm at the laundry mat again because my landlord apparently got busy doing stuff for his mom today & can't come out after dark I don't know but I'm over paying to dry my work rags & mop heads & clothes!!! Anyway it's liquid & he has to take it once a day I gave it to him at 1030pm last night so that's when he get it again tonight. I have to wrap him in a towel & squirt it in the side of his mouth & some of it gets on him he doesn't do well with liquid meds. They were also going to give me a liquid appetite stimulant but I pulled up the pill form of miritaz on chewy & she wrote me a prescription & I have to mail it to them. I don't think he needs it anymore but I'm still going to get it for just in case & for future use. We have some transdermal that we were using but it is expired & it makes his poor little ear all red & it makes him mean. She also gave me 2 cerenia pills 2 really & she said to give him one per day they are 16mg. I've always broke them in half & gave them twice a day. I still have one half of the old ones I gave him half of the other one earlier today. I will probably hold off on the cerenia for now since he is eating FINALLY he's still being picky & sometimes he won't eat in the cat room so I take his bowls in the kitchen. I have to go to Walmart & grab some more of the friskies flavor that he likes because he ate all of it. I have a couple of other flavors but I'm afraid to change up on him.

I don't know what the carbs are in either one of the foods but I saw where Chris commented that the fancy feast was under 10% & I believe the friskies is the pate ones that other peoples kittys eat. I probably should check. I decided to give him 3 units tonight because I hate seeing him in the 300s. I'm hoping to be back home to start testing by +3 I'm going to try & attach his blood work & Urinalysis please let me know what you think

I hate it when vets prescribe liquid antibiotics. I usually refuse them unless there’s no other option. You are doing a great job trying to help him. I am happy he had no ketones.

I have used “expired” Mirataz lots of times and it still works. How much do you give him? Many times as small an amount as a pea sized amount daily will do the job. But if he’s eating now then he may not need any appetite stimulant.
I was giving a nice line of it on his ear. I think it worked last time in November when we went through him & Spook both being sick. I don't think it helped at all this time. The last time I gave it to him was @ AMPS on the 11th & I stopped the ondanstran @ AMPS on the 12th that's when he started eating the new food.

Well it went even worse tonight, he didn't hardly get any of it. I'm calling them in the morning & asking for an oral medication. Whether it's a pill that I can put in a pill pocket 2 if it's big or a capsule. I tipped his little head back & made him swallow that gabapentin & I also did that with a Cosequin one day. He scared the crap out of me on the morning of the 11th. He kept going back & forth between the litter boxes & I was like oh God UTI or he hasn't eaten anything & that's where he gets his water but I had seen him drinking water from the water bowl & he still is. Anyway he did the back & forth & then he layed down in the litter box. I ran in the kitchen & syringed some water up in a syringe & gave it to him while he layed in there & he immediately stood up & peed... very very scary. Thank you I would do anything I possibly can for him I told many times you can't leave me😓

My house for today cancelled Panzer ate great for breakfast & snack. I woke up to puke for lunch so I gave him a cerenia & he puked it up :arghh: he ate some chicky out of my hand a couple of bites of scrambled egg about an hour later but that's it. I'm going to give him another cerenia @+9.5 AMPS & an ondanstran @+10.5. Hopefully he will eat at PMPS 😢

I spoke to my vets office about the Vèraflox as well. They are working on getting it compounded through Wedgewood pharmacy but said it could take a few days so I'm stuck trying to give him the liquid for now!!!

Any chance you could put his blood work results on the Labs tab of the spreadsheet? The PDF wants me to download it onto my computer, which I declined.

Let me call the vet & see if they can give me a print out of it. My printer isn't working & my only other option is going to the library. It's easier to put it on the spreadsheet off of paper rather than looking at the PDF writing it on paper could take me awhile.

Has anyone been able to open the PDF of his bloodwork & urinalysis? @Suzanne & Darcy @Wendy&Neko @Chris & China (GA) @Sienne and Gabby (GA)

Yeah, it opens fine for me.

I have a not so great update 😓 I went to get the printout of Panzers blood work & urinalysis & I was told that his antibiotic can't be compounded & they can't give more Cerenia. So I have 1& a half cerenia pills & 5 more days of the liquid Vèraflox to try & get in him!!! Any videos on how to give liquid meds would be great he's so easy to pill even capsules but liquid, I need a straight jacket & a muzzle with a mouth opening just kidding :banghead:

They said if he's still puking you need to bring him back for another exam. I don't think they realize that some cats with pancreatitis need to be medically managed for the rest of there lives...so I guess I'm going to be looking for a new vet :arghh:

Panzer ate his PMPS dinner thank God. I was looking up alternatives to cerenia & the only thing I'm seeing that's not a prescription is slippery elm. He has slippery elm every other night but in baby food because of the taste. So here is my question...what about putting Slippery elm in a size 5 gel cap & giving it to him?

Chris also had the idea of putting his liquid antibiotic in a gel cap would that work? Would I need a bigger size for that? his dose for the Vèraflox is 2.3mg going to attach pictures best I could get

that's quite a bit of liquid, especially considering you can only fill half the capsule so it may require giving him multiple capsules to get the 2.3ml down. I don't know enough about the different capsule sizes to be able to help much.
Yeah I don't know measurement stuff very well either. The capsules will be here tomorrow so maybe someones who's good with stuff like that will come along & have the solution. I'm going to order some bigger ones to gonna look at them now

I ordered some double 00 size gel caps they were offering them overnight along with Fortiflora that I'm almost out of & that helped Panzer eat his PMPS meal...man I hope this works out

I'm posting pics of Panzers blood work & Urinalysis it's also on his spreadsheet

I had to give Veraflox recently to a kitty. The pills were quite small and easy to give.

For liquid meds, look at the second video in the link here: Pilling Your Cat. You want the video called Medicating Techniques. It's worth watching the first minutes or so, then skip to about 6:45 in to see a demo of giving liquid meds.

The down side of liquid in capsules is that the gelatine capsule will decompose quickly when in touch with liquid.

So they do have them in pill form or can compound them... these vets just are not wanting to cooperate & obviously know nothing about pancreatitis. I literally had to tell her that's what was wrong with him. She thought he was in DKA & wanted to keep him & test him & give him insulin & make sure he didn't have ketones. I know my cat & I know what the signs & sytomps are.

All she did was catch that he had a UTI which I suspected that as well back & forth in the litter box & then laying in it boy that was scary!!!

Thank you Wendy I will watch the video now because he gets the Vèraflox @+5 PMPS

Panzer had the Vèraflox @+5 PMPS I watched some videos & I put him on the kitchen counter wrapped in a towel backed up to me & I slowly gave it to him in about 4 squirts in the side of his mouth His face was just a little sticky but he got most of it. His numbers are looking good so we will see if this med raises them. It's almost time to eat fingers & paws crossed it goes well :bighug:

Panzer ate his bedtime meal with Fortiflora the FF savory chicken. He started at 344 AMPS this morning & ended with a 108 @+6PMPS at bedtime. I looked over his spreadsheet & my note in his notebook & it looks like he does good with Cerenia every 12hrs & Ondanstran every 12hrs so that's the plan going forward until we run out of cerenia which his last dose will be Saturday morning if he doesn't need more before then. I'm going to give his probiotic in the AM & his normal Slippery elm at some point tomorrow as well. I'm not going to worry about Mirilax or Zobaline until this crap is over. He's pooping normal & some runny (probably the antibiotic)

If any of you all pray please pray for Panzer :bighug: :bighug::bighug::bighug:

You can get syringes that do not have a needle. It's how liquid meds are given. I give one of my cat's calcitriol which is a liquid and the compounding pharmacy (Roadrunner) sends blank syringes with each Rx.

How do you give it to your kitty & how would I get an Rx? There not willing to work with me at all I called them 30mins before closing & said that the antibiotic was making him puke & giving him diarrhea & that I needed more Cerenia. They told me they weren't giving me anymore cerenia & to take him to the emergency vet.

I would call around to a few of your local pharmacies. Let them know you need syringes for your cat and that you need a syringe that doesn't have the needle -- it's for oral meds. There's a reasonable chance that a syringe like this is used for infants who need oral meds. If the pharmacy doesn't stock them, ask if they know where you can get the syringes. I'd also try a hospital pharmacy especially if there's an academic medical center anywhere nearby.

I did a search and you can get them on Amazon. I searched "oral syringes". ADW also stocks them.

As for administration, this is a video from Cornell.

Thank you @Sienne and Gabby (GA) I will check it out. I'm going to make a new post here shortly.
