That was a decent drop, Whiskers. Looks like he's coming down real nice :-D

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

Good Afternoon,

I appreciate everyones advice and thoughts. I was pretty tired last night.

Whiskers squatted down right in front of me and peed on the master bath floor this morning. I also had to clean up pee spots on the main floor bath and master bedroom carpet. She seems to improve in that area sometimes and than it gets worse and worse @-) nailbite_smile . Sometimes I can really get overwhelmed.

We do have 4 cats and 5 litter boxes, I suppose we could always add another one. The boxes are on all 3 levels of the house. I even made 2 of the extra roomy ones featured on Dr. Lisa's website.

I'll try to test before leaving for work, but after all the clean up, I'm really running behind.

Have a good day.

Hi, Cherly & Whiskers.. I wish I had some advice regarding the urination.. but I just dont.. I have had no experience with inappropriate eliminating & have never had a cat with a UTI.. hang in there.. you have a lot of support.

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

Sometimes a cat will have a substrate aversion. So, if you use clumping litter, you can try changing to non-clumping, or if you use scented, change to non-scented, etc. You could try confining her to a bathroom or other small room with her litter and a bed, food, and water until she starts re-learning to use the litter box. I don't know if that would be practical in your household.

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

I think most of the times cats urinate outside of the box it is not due to behavioural issues. Wishing you get to the bottom of it. I bet Whiskers isn't having any fun doing that. Something must be up.

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

Hi Cheryl - I too wish I had some advice on the LB issues - I've just never had to deal with anything along those lines. I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon. I wish you luck. :-D

Nice numbers last night for Whiskers - even made blue. YAY!

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

What Linda mentioned about type of litter is true here we once tried to switch all cats to wood pellets and my older aby girl refused to use it to the point of peeing just anywhere me  the silly Bean thought cats would use what was put in front of them not true for my house anyway sooooo we have 3 kinds of litter here wood pellet, scoop-able and just regular tidy cat clay for the picky cats I have and you can try feliway plug ins not sure if this will help or if I am repeating something someone else has already said I am behind in condos this week

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

If you don't mind some tracking and spillage, try a cement mixing tub from Home Depot. They measure about 2 x 3 feet and have low sides. 40 lbs. of cat litter fills them just right. My cats seem to be attracted to them, and obnoxious Osky likes to go sit in one of them when I first pour fresh litter. You might let her watch you change out the litter and let her scoot around in the fresh stuff.

Have you watched for the other cats scaring her out of the litter box? It's common competitive behavior. I chaperone my girl cat in the bathroom cuz one of the boys likes to play games.

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

Good Evening All,

Lots of good advise. Thank you.

I have not used the cement tubs. I have converted large storage tubs by adding an opening at one end and leaving the top off (like on Dr. Lisa's site) http://www.catinfo.org/?link=litterbox. In fact we have pretty much tried all the suggestions on her site.

I'm going to get a feliway defuse and try rescue remedy (for alpha cat/bad behavior issues).
I clean the pee spots with http://www.antiickypoo.com/, A odor removal solution with Multi Strain Live Bacteria Enzymes which eat away the organic waste that cause urine and feces odor, eliminating the smell forever, just as nature intended.

I have a black light to make sure the stains/oders are completly removed. I have a gigantic syringe to inject the carpet and pad. I am also willing to try the other products recommended to me by FDMB members from a previous condo.

I have chaperoned her in the box and even rewarded appropriate litter box use with high protien snacks (she is so highly motivated by food, she completely forgot peeing and just sits in the litter box waiting for a snack instead of peeing. cat(2)_steam ).

We have tried 4 different kinds of litter including Dr. Elseys cat attract litter. We currently have 2 different kinds of litter, in 5 different locations in the house, she really doesn't seem to show a preferance for any type.

She does seem to have a preferance for one of the box locations, she seems to want it to be really clean. I clean them every day (twice a day is a bit much), and if we miss a day, god help us. She was also lost outside for about a month, before she came to us (she was diagnosed as a diabetic shortly after being found and returned to her home. That makes sense to me). I have been told that once they are used to going anywhere, it is hard to get them to go back to the box.
She has been confined to a small room with litter box, food, pillow...nothing really seems to show any long term effect.

If it is not behavioral, or UTI, than what? As soon as we can afford it (not really sure when), we will make an appointment at the U of M to see if they can help us with IE and BG numbers.

P.S. Can anyone reassure me that I am not becoming a crazy cat lady. My husband hasn't said anything, but I'm sure he is begining to wonder grumpy_cat .

Re: 01/12 Whiskers AMPS 402

You certainly are committed & Whiskers is blessed to have you, Cheryl.. you are doing a fabulous job in an overwhelming, frusturating situation. I have used the Rescue Remedy the past two days & absolutely LOVE it!
