She was up at 4:45AM so I tested her and I gave her a TBSP and a half of food. But then at insulin time an hour later it was hard convincing her to eat.

Just wondering how much food do they have to eat with their shots? Any guideline, whole mean, TBSP, does it matter? I buried some freeze dried chicken in her wet, she watched me do it :lol: Then she was, "Well, I guess I'll eat again"

Using her +11 as pre-shot number

AMPS=229
+3=218
PMPS=207 First time using calipers 2.24mm
+3=209
+6=166

Morning guys I try and feed a good amount with his shot. I don't know if there is a specific guideline but you do want to make sure they eat with insulin. I split a can of FF between 2 cats but Scrabble probably eats about 3/4 of it. I make sure I don't feed at least a couple of hours before his shot so he is hungry unless for some reason I catch a dropping number at +10 or +11 I will give a little food. The freeze dried chicken always helps us if you sprinkle the dust on top. Hope you have a great day.

Good morning! Just wanted to stop by and send you good wishes for today. It's so hard to look at a little furry face telling you "I want food" and make them wait until shot time so they will eat with their insulin. I'll be interested to see if there's a specific amount that's good for shot time. Ollie usually gets just over a tbl. take care and have a great day. mary and oliver

On the food topic, it's generally recommended to NOT feed cats within 2 hours of their next shot as this can adversely affect their BG. See also this discussion that mandatory feeding with the shot is a leftover tenet from the old days and not exactly correct.

Thank you for finding and posting that. When you are new to sugar kitties and diabetes in general, it's a lot of info to take in and remember all at once. And it's impossible to remember all the questions you would like to ask. Vets are so busy and don't always have time to answer them. So it's so very nice to have this forum to ask the questions when they come to mind. Thank you again, I feel better at giving her more food during the day.
