You must be exhausted! Look at that beautiful Amps. I hope you don’t have any drama or a bounce today. I liked the active cycles so much better during the day but it always seemed to happen when I had I responsibilities away from home.

I’m pretty tired, lucky my work is super flexible and I’ll make up today’s hours this weekend and get some rest today.

He’s 230 @ +6.. I think we gonna bounce but Gus is full of surprises, so maybe not..

So with the amount of pokes we did yesterday, Gus’ ears look a little beat up and spotty. He’s flicking his ears when I warm them up at tests.. but luckily no flicking when poking and grabbing the sample. Gonna take it easy on the pokes tonight so that should help a bit.

Being (a Canadian) winter, his ears get some cold therapy in between tests just from being around the house.. but is there something tried and tested that I could use to help speed up the healing? A cream or something?

I have this stuff made by Dr. Maggie’s (adding active ingredients list in a photo below).. it’s not really for bruising, per se .. I’ve used it before but not sure if it help

Some people here use coconut oil on their kitty's ears. I don't know about the rest on the list, but just check if any of them are toxic for cats before using them.

I guess you've seen this from the Home Testing sticky?

Ear Care
Since our kitties must endure so many tests, what are some ways to take care of the ears?
  • Hold a wet, cool baby washcloth on the poke site immediately after the test to prevent bruising.
  • Put Emla cream on the test sites after each test. It only takes a tiny dab and you can wipe it off before the next test. Emla cream requires a prescription from your vet. Neosporin with has been found to contain a toxin to cats, polymixin and should be avoided.
  • You can purchase Ledum 30C homeopathic remedy at any health food store. Dissolve one tablet in a small bottle of pure water and then apply one or two drops to each ear every day. Ledum is great for puncture wounds.

Thanks! Guessing these are all directly after poke solutions not speed up the healing process afterwards

I didn’t know that I should be using a wet cold cloth after the poke but that makes sense.. Been using my cotton round to apply pressure for 20-25sec, usually does the trick… and every couple of days I will use a wet cotton round to clean up the ear (which he thinks is the worst thing ever!)

I can ask my vet about Emla.

I did research all the ingredients on the one I have and all are safe for kitties, was the first thing I did before buying it :)

He doesn’t usually look like this, I think I didn’t put pressure long enough yesterday in an effort to post test results faster… luckily it looks like we have a break from pokes

I use a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton round to clean up his ears after a long night/day of poking. I usually use the left ear for AM and right ear for PM pokes so I just clean the ear that has seen the heaviest use when I switch to the other ear. I don't know if it helps but it makes me feel like I am doing some good. :)
