o_OGood Morning !! I hope everyones having a wonderful new year so far .
Salems still doing pretty good . I usually just let salem graze and eat all day . As soon as hes bowel is empty i fill it back up. But now hes up to 22 lbs now . I dnt want him to be overweight too much . I know a few years back the vet discussed with me hes a big cat but he was about 6 lbs overweight when he was last 22lbs . Now hes back up in weight after almost dying and getting so skinny im now worried about maybe i should slow down ? I feel he should eat whenever he wants but i dnt want to make him an unhealthy weight it could cause alot of problems its one reason why we are diabetic now Salem ! Hes always never been full since he was an adult cat one reason i worried he would be diabetic one day . I use to sit waiting in the vet reading the posters on the wall one poster was about diabetic cats and dogs. Asking is your cat or dog diabetic ? Then telling you the signs of diabetes and pointing out what parts of the body it effects . Guess it was a warning of what was to come . Last vet visit when he was diagnosed diabetic when i made an emergency visit in a saturday when i really got worried its time hes diabetic i have seen all the signs and hes laying around the water bowel and hes urinating alot . Well the vet also told us Salems teeth are the worst hes seen in a cat . I dnt believe that but hes teeth arent very clean lots of plague . I use to brush Salems teeth when he was a young adult cat hes got hes own tooth brush and tooth paste. My husband caught me that night i bought it on the floor with salems back up against my chest holding him with one arm brushing hes teeth lol :joyful::joyful::joyful:. My husbands scared me he just started laughing saying are you brushing that cats teeth .???! .. well :p i just told him to be quiet hes got bad breath and hes teeth are getting lots of plaque . He also gets treats to clean hes teeth not often enough though . The vet claims he needs probably about $800 of dental work and cleaning done . I have looked at his teeth they arent clean but hes bot as bad as the vet tells me . Bella hes sister has always loved dry food her teeth are like new teeth . I should have got pet insurance when i thought of it years ago but money was tight . Now its preexisting . Isnt preexisting against the law now in insurance wouldn't it be the same for animals ? I heard prexisting can not be a reason to keep you from getting coverage now or for insurances not to cover his condition cause its preexisting ? Anyone have pet insurance ? Can anyone tell me mire about it ?
I hope everyone has a great day ! And all your kitties surf today ! I love the beach !
Sorry for being so long today ? Lol

Good Morning Tina! I do not have Pet Insurance - I just try to set aside a little each month to help pay for vet bills - when the time comes - which apparently is now with Luci and her broken foot issues that just keep on and on...

I think if I were you I'd try to hold back a little bit on the cat food for Salem. Getting too heavy isn't going to help him with his diabetes...hopefully he can get active and playing will also help him trim down a bit. You might try cutting down by 1/4 can per feeding and see if he's still satisfied with just a little less...then in a couple of weeks cut back another 1/4 can - I don't know how much you're putting out for him each time....I usually give Luci 1/2 can which she grazes on then returns to finish it later...and at some later test times during the day she'll get another spoonful...which seems to satisfy her...but of course every cat is different...

Hope that you and Salem have a great day!

The problem is i got two other cats eating from the same two double bowel i have set out for them . I never know exactly how much salems getting between the three . I put out two cans in the morning for all three to eat and then when its out after their breakfast i put one can back in it for salem to have to graze on during the day for when he knows hes sugar gets too low or just to have small meals during the day i dnt think he eats too much at one time except breakfast and dinner he seems to eat longer . Hes snacking during the day . I tried feeding the other cats separate but that didnt work out .

You could put the food out like you do and remove 1 tsp of it each time. You don't want the others gaining to much either. Then after a few weeks remove 2 tsp from each meal. It a chip feeder might help.
