A question...

Blaze and I usually have the same routine...I get up at 5, we do the testing, feeding and the shot. At around 5:30 I go back to bed for a little bit. He uses the litter then comes back to bed with me. This morning, when he came back bed, I noticed he couldn't settle...not the usual unsettled nausea/vomit/low sugar behaviour. He kept salivating excessively. Kept swallowing, he had little drops of saliva around his mouth and he kept moving from one place of the bed to another to try and get comfortable to go to sleep like he usually does. On the bed comforter, in the spots he was moving to to try and settle, it was a bit wet.

I am thinking this can be a Cerenia side effect? Is that it? He has never done this before. The only difference with him is the Cerenia because he has recurrring nausea which prevents him from eating properly. He has been on the Cerenia for the past 7 straight days and before that, a few days on and off.

I think maybe I can give him a little break from it and see if the drooling improves?

Update: I went to check the basement to see if there was vomit...and there was. Everything Blaze ate this morning...he threw it up. He probably threw up shortly after 5:30 and then he was salivating excessively when he came back to me in bed. Not sure if the Cerenia, the nausea and the vomit and the excessive salivation are all connected. When he is nauseous and not on any meds, he doesnt salivate like he did this morning, he just walks away from food, and licks things around the house, usually the banister.

I will check the camera to see if Blaze was the one who vomited but I am 90% sure it was him. There were little dark grey hairs in the vomit...I have to teach now but will check in later

I give him the cerenia myself and put it down his throat like I do with Ash's chemo pill BUT Ash's pill is a gelatine capsule with the powder inside (easier to swallow) and the cerenia is not, I wonder if the pill got stuck in his throat :(
I love plants but because they do too, years ago I decided to get rid of any flower, plant etc...I bought them all fake lol so it looks like I have some green but it's plastic

Is there a better way to give cerenia? I read that it is bitter and if I crush it with his food, he may not want to eat it? Not sure

I might soon have to ditch my plants because Chai eats them. At the moment I have to keep two in my office and there isn't enough sun so they will probably die. I have to barricade the hall door to keep them out of the front part of my condo.

Yep Blaze and Ash like flowers and plants too...thats why i got rid of all

The higher the number, the smaller the capsule. So get 3’s or 4’s. 5’s are tiny but usually more expensive and not worth it. Using them you can combine medications. Just chase with food or water.

So, is it safe for me to give Cerenia again tomorrow or should I wait to get the capsules first and give him a couple of days break from it?

During the day after recovering from the episode this morning, he ate very well. No nausea, so it must have been the Cerenia getting stuck in his throat/tooth/mouth.

I found it impossible to buy the small gel caps in person. I checked all the health food stores.

I will check what little remains of Rover's supplies but I'm sure I donated them to somebody.

Oh boy. He’s on the move already. I won’t put in writing what I am thinking. I will say it’s either depot action or he’s racing down the dosing scale or both.

Never a dull moment...and he is being stubborn with food. He seems ok though...he is "hunting" in the basement. He did have a couple of licks of MC

Would it be safer if I tested 1 more time? Or do u think he is on his way up now? Maybe if he actually goes and eats a good amount in the next half hour, I could go to bed. If not, I will test again.

Cerenia is very bitter if the cat accidentally chews it. I remember the first time I tried pilling Ruby with it and she was drooling and foaming at the mouth and I freaked out. Since then, I got those Greenies Pill Pockets and I use a quarter of a whole pocket and wrap it around her prednisolone every day and she swallows it without any issue. I give my civvie Olive her Cerenia in a pill pocket too that she just swallows. Much easier than a dry pill. Some advise feeding a few little balls of the pill pocket after the bigger pill goes down to help it move through the cat's throat, or chasing it with a syringe of water or broth.

Blaze just ate a really good amount of his 7%, thank God. He is acting like the king of the castle tonight. Ignoring me when I prompt him

I bought pill pockets for Tiffany for Pepcid which is also quite bitter. It worked a couple times. Then she got a taste of it and would never eat a pill pocket again, even without any pills.

Way back before diabetes and cancer, I had tried those pockets but neither of my cats were interested. At first, when Ash got sick I used to open the capsule, pour the powder in tuna juice and that was the only way....but the chemo substance is toxic so it was dangerous for me to handle like that. Then Ash finally let me pill him. Now he is 100% used to it.
