How about Walter and Freckles have a little contest to see who can get into the blues and stay there longer than say an hour...![]()
Well, good for Walter for seeing green.Walter dropped into green but he was hollering for food— now he’s in yellow!
He's going to have to show Freckles a thing or two! She is still hanging around the lemon tree.
Oh Walter! So glad you dipped into the green for your mama! And then he popped right back out...it happens. He'll probably bounce to the moon now...but we know he can do it (get to the lagoon)...and I hope he clears that bounce soon...so great that he made it there! Very nice! I hope he'll take a break at the beach (blue) soon..and relax a bit before taking another surfing lesson
Have a great evening Zelda!
Well—we’re in the black again but hopefully, it won’t be for too long.
So should I still be giving him good every time he wants it ( which seems to be all the time)? By doing this, I feel like I’m increasing his sugar intake.Yep, I figured that was coming - he's reacting to hitting that nice low green - his body is freaking because he's not used to seeing any numbers that low. His body says OMG what in the world has happened to all of our usual piles of sugar running through here? It's not there!!! So his liver is coming to the rescue - it thinks' and it's dumping all the stored up sugars that it can spare - into his blood stream. So you're going to see those sugars until he clears them out - and perhaps until next time his numbers get low. The hope here is that the more often he sees those low numbers, the more used to them his body will become and he'll stop off-loading all that stored up sugar...

Thank you! When the vet weighted him last week, Walter’s weight had increased a few ounces. He’s at 9.6.As long as it's low carb, it's good. The diabetes is causing his food not to be well absorbed by his body - so he feels hungry a lot and needs to eat. If you think of human diabetics the recommendation is for frequent small meals - this will often help to regulate the blood sugar, make it more level, rather than all the ups and downs of no food, then high carb stuff which can send blood sugar soaring. How's his weight?
