What is the expiration date? I have thought my insulin pen might be off before, and tried a new pen and if it didn't make a difference in his numbers (J.D.'s) then I just went back and used up the old one. But 16 months is a long time.

I don't have a new pen right now. I tried one more shot with the old one. If this still doesn't help, I'll get a new one first thing tomorrow.
 
I'd get a new pen. I think 16 months is too old. Like Dyana said, try the new pen to see if it works better, and hold onto the old one in case it's still effective.
