No not yetYou can even give the shot while they are eating. I didn’t mean to say that you did give the insulin or that you should but I was wondering what the number was at what would be the regular shot time. I would worry about skipping any shots if ketones are in the picture. And ketones can begin to form when there’s not enough insulin given.
Did you hear back from the vet?
Then I probably would not skip the shot. She doesn’t need to eat large amounts necessarily as long as she will eat small amounts during the early portion of the cycle. She ate a small bit during night and small portion wet at about 7 30 this morning. Has not vomited anything since Sunday evening
I was finally able to reach my vet and took Lucy in yesterday afternoon. Luckily no ketones or uti. She gave her Cerenia for nausea and suggested increasing the amount of appetite stimulant, Miritaz transdermal. She has finally begun eating again last night so I was able to give her 1/2 unit of insulin. The appetite stimulant makes her especially vocal but it's worth it. Not entirely sure what started this whole episode but hopeful she is feeling better. Then I probably would not skip the shot. Her appetite still isn't what it was before. She doesn't eat as readily or with as much interest. Strange how things seemed to change from one day to next. I am doing my best to encourage her to eat enough for her pre insulin meals. Will be giving her 1 unit dose of insulin again. I am going to continue to give her the Mirataz transdermal appetite stimulant and Cerenia. How is Lucy?
I'm sorry to hear about your own struggles with your own baby. Yes it is frustrating and scary.I was able to take Lucy to the vet. They checked for ketones and ruled out uti. We did not test to rule out pancreatitis , although I regret not doing it. Should have checked creatnine levels too. Her glucose numbers have been improving although not quite where they they need to be. Do you have any food recommendations? Prescription or otherwise?Oh I hope she will eat better again soon. I am currently going through this with one of my cats. She doesn’t want to eat. I spend a lot of time trying different things to get her to eat. It’s very disheartening.
So the vet checked her to make sure she didn’t have a temperature? This week I mean? Or was she not seen this week (and you just spoke by phone with the vet?) Is Lucy up and moving around normally? Has she been checked for pancreatitis? That’s very common in diabetic cats? How have her glucose numbers been? I would like to say that it’s just her reduced glucose numbers causing her to be less hungry, but when this happens a cat’s appetite should return to more like their pre-diabetic level, which means she should be eating a normal amount of food.
