Happy Friday everyone!

Safe surfing to all the kitties today! 🌊🏄‍♀️

This is Moonie sleeping in one of her weird little positions and hanging out with my civvie cat Wilbur. I think he’s her favorite - when Moonie first came home, she’d get nervous and start smacking the other kitties, and Wilbur never retaliated and never stopped trying to be her friend. And now they’re nap buddies 🥰

We just got a lime - I know as a long term diabetic, Moonie doesn’t quite meet the reduction threshold. But I think if we want to stay under 6 pokes a day (which we definitely do for a while), we need to take the reduction and hope she can give us good enough numbers at 2.75u. We’ll reassess after 2-3 days if her nadirs aren’t low enough. Fingers crossed!

Hmm, message about 3.0 units coming over loud and clear! Let's see what the next test says, it's very early in the cycle. UP Moonie.
We gave her 2tsp of HC so fingers crossed 🤞

It’s funny how Moonie’s body changes her mind about the “right” dose all the time. When we were last on 2.75u (just a couple days ago), she never really got below 80 so I’m a little nervous - but I also can’t honor my promise of more pets less pokes staying at a dose that just gave us a lime at +2 😅

Totally common. Neko's dose started at 1 unit, got all the way up to 8.75, gradually down to 0.75, then back up to 7.0 as her acro tumour kicked in again, then back down to 0.25 units. Over a span of almost 5 years. Don't get tied to the number of units, the important numbers are the BG.

I tried to do with 5 pokes a day, unless I couldn't. I was cross border shopping for test strips.

Thanks so much, Wendy! That actually helps a lot to know that the dose can fluctuate a lot over time, and that we shouldn’t anchor to the number of units :)

And we’re also trying to keep it to 4-5 pokes a day. I think we can do it as long as it’s not a cuspy dose. Usually I like to do two evening checks, one at +2 and another right before I go to bed just for safety of mind since her evening cycles tend to be more active.

Tonight we’ll end up with 7-8 probably. Sorry Moonie, but that’s why we’re going back down tomorrow.

That's a low lime too (to me it is, anyway). Good luck on that reduction. The ups and downs :banghead:
I love that Wilber and Moonie are nap buddies! None of mine are. Even the triplets, who are litter mates. John Lewis and Zelda used to be nap buddies until I took JL to the vet and brought him home and we've had stranger danger since

Thanks Mary! I know technically for long-term diabetics it’s below 40 or 40-50 three times but I figured 43 is close enough if we’re trying to minimize Moonie pokes for a bit. Plus we’re going on vacation in a month so we’re hoping to get her as cooperative as possible with poking so that our pet sitter can do it.

It’s weird how the vet smells always bring out the stranger danger in kitties! Wilbur had never hissed a day in his life until Charlotte came back from her dental smelling like mint. And my ragdolls Wilbur and Charlotte are littermates but they never nap together either - the only time is when Wilbur sits on Charlotte’s head to get her to move from a particularly nice nap spot! Then sometimes Charlotte will wait it out for as long as she can before moving so they’re technically “napping together” 😭🤣
