2 may not last you a month maybe they will. You are placing one on George, that means that if that one stops working before the 14 days so on and so on you might get stuck your vet can prescribe a continuous sensor prescription (for multiple sensors) if you use them great if you change your mind no problem, the instructions are very simple, careful on the wrapping not to loosen the tiny needle from the skin, not too tight either or the sensor will not work, once you get an error, the sensor has to be replaced, you only shave large enough that the hair doesn’t come close to the sensor adhesive, so it stays on tge instruction are photos that tell you where to place the sensor, Corky’s stayed pretty much on just that the sensors would stop working 4-8-10 days at a time, in 3 months only 1 lasted 14 days, too expensive for me and scary, so I just went with the ReliOn Premier and strips, I will tag a member that can really put your mind at ease on the CGM@CORKY so what you were saying about the CGM. Im going to try it out regardless, I was prescribed 2 which should last me a month. If I like it and George isnt opposed to it for the most part then I’ll likely stick with it as well as the normal blood glucose testing. I will buy some self adhering wrap for him so he doesnt pull it off and I’ll get my husband to help me put the device on him. It seems relatively straightforward and I already have a cat trimmer from when we first got George 4 years ago and he had some small mats
I ended up changing my mind again, i spoke to my husband about it and its more cost effective right now for us to do the blood tests which seem to be more accurate2 may not last you a month maybe they will. @Staci & Ivy
Could you give a heads up on CGM for George
I assume you guys are home today, if you are and you can test him today every 2 hours, let's see how the insulin works on George and create a pattern throughout the daySpeaking of which I need to test him now
Just to clarify how the testing strips work with the control solution, when you open a new box/vial of testing strips, you use one strip to test with the control solution, and then you compare the number the meter gives you to the range for a cat, and then throw that strip away. You don't ever use that testing strip for testing George's blood.Oh okay I thought i had to use it on every test strip but im glad to know i do not
Unfortunately I was not able to sleep last night; I was up worrying about George. But he seems to be doing good today. Im testing him every 2 hours today just because I am going to be home for the day with no errandsHi Zach! I hope you were finally able to grab some sleep last night. I wanted to mention something to you about the control solution. Last night, you wrote...

Also, now that you have your spreadsheet and signature set up, if you want to post over on the Lantus forum, you can do that.
We set our title line up in a specific way over there so that things are more organized: Date, cat's name, blood glucose readings. You can see how my post looks over there for a model to follow.
You don't have to post over there, but it's a forum specifically for Lantus users which is beneficial.
How is he now? 109 is not a number that I would give MC to--LC at the most. But I would continue to monitor hourly moving forward because he could continue dropping. Let's hope the +6 was his nadir.
Ill test him again then, thank you!NO, is too soon before his next shot, test again in 1 hours, if he gets to 100 feed him 2 tsps of low carbs, repeat if needed, and post a the BG, we'll start with that, it is customary, no one knows why that cat's glucose levels are lower at night time, I am right here, I'll be looking for the BGs his next shot is at 10:00 PM if you start pumping medium or high carbs, even in tsps. he will way too high, we want to stabilize, the longer he stays in those 300's the more George's pancreas will damage, he's still bouncing
definition of bouncing
Bounces are quite frustrating I agree. They about from dropping lower than the cat is used to or dropping too fast. They can 2-4 days to clear, so you don’t want to base dosing upon a bounce cycle. The bounce clearing cycle can be quite active and can even lead to another bounce. quickly feed a lc snack to slow things down. You won’t know that without a few extra tests though.
OK, that's better, we're good, sometimes you get a bad strip, now you know, when I test Corky, I always have another strip on hand in case the BG strikes me as odd, I test again, if you use the same droplet of blood even better. don't worry, if we need to act, we will do so together a test at a time a tsp at a time OK?321. The 109 must've been a false read or not enough blood because I never gave him any food after testing
Next time if I get a low ill test a second time just to be sureOK, that's better, we're good, sometimes you get a bad strip, now you know, when I test Corky, I always have another strip on hand in case the BG strikes me as odd, I test again, if you use the same droplet of blood even better. don't worry, if we need to act, we will do so together a test at a time a tsp at a time OK?
these are one of the reason why acting on medium or high carbs right away can be a mistake, Good job!
for now is a great idea until his bouncing disappears. Also know that when George feeds his levels go up, example, see Corky's SS, again he is on ProZinc, but the concept is the same, there's a 2 hour window from shot time after feeding, to stall the shot, I have learned to navigate with low 2 digit levels and shoot, but it takes a lot of practice, you will also learn to do the same, but right now George is new to insulin and we have not had the pleasure to see how he truly reacts to the insulin due to set backs, but we will get there, once he spends 2-3 cycles with a steady BG pattern, the fun begins! I want to see some low yellow to high blues, a bit too early for the all blue thingy, but I am optimistic, enjoy your dinner!!!Next time if I get a low ill test a second time just to be sure
Hi, I forgot to message back in the forum. Hes 335 at +10are you there to test George?, make sure that when you shoot you aim the needle straight down not sideways, to avoid a fur shot
I do sincerely apologise. George is doing good right now, he's still a little startled but otherwise hes alert and awakeOh my! I was beginning to get nervous, good so we’ll test before shot and at +2 and +4 and keeping our fingers crossed for those tests, hopefully we will both have a good night rest
Sounds good. Ill prepare his insulinSo is shot time! Please test at +2 sorry to repeat it so often I just want you to go thru the stress you went thru last night, this time I will not leave the phone out of my sight, Corky’s last meal is at 10:00 PM I’ll wait till his second test after shot. You are not alonefingers crossed
Have to still test him, but hes very happy right now just curled up on my husbands lap. But again, behaviour can be misleadingHow’s George doing before we hit the sack??
Hes 195. Just updated the spreadsheetyes Can cats Can hide any illness quité well, so never go by i how they look it can be decriving, I will do my best to stay up till rest time, but I think George is going to be just fine remember. A non-diabetic s’ normal glucose level is between 50-120, i thinl he will stay in the 200s tonight
I feed him before his shot his normal dry food, about half a cup. I was told his dry food, kirkland chicken and rice, wasnt a high carb food, but if it is i can just switch him over to the wet low carb I haveGood morning!
It was a better night last night, considering the night before good job George, just as I thought he is still bouncing around, today is going to be a better day, I hate to ask, but are you giving any high carbs before bedtime, Is normal for the BG to be higher at AMPS, but I am seeing a small pattern
Thank you for the information! Ill go through my options and see which would fit best for GeorgeIf you are switching to wet, most member feed Fancy Feast Classic pates in clouding myself they are US made regulated and no waste goes onto the food, there are other low carb flavors like Chicken chunky 4 % , Fish & Shrimp Flake 0% Medleys Chicken Flavor in a savory Sauce 4.5 %, Ocean Whitefish 0% carbs, I auto-ship from CHEWY.com pay no shipping, 5% off every case , and shipping in 2 days you can change flavors any time and the date of shipment, Publix charges $1.04 per can with Chewy $0.85 a can I buy 4 flavors, 4 cases I feed 1/2a can each per meal (4) cans a day You can also get the rubber covers for the cans if left over, I personally love Chewy, I also buy the Pretty Litter from them is $23.00 Each bag their web site is almost $40. At the store $45.00, since I have a jumbo box, Corky and Coco I use 1 bag every 3 weeks this stuff is a game changer, with George 1 bag last 2 months, and just pick up tge poop down the toilet and no smell in the house
And so since I got a bit off track, if you do switch food the transition has to be a slow one, for every meal you remove 2-3 tsp of the old food replace with the new , repeat until all he eats is the new food you chose, is important that you test often during this transition, changing from high to low carbs can upset George’s stomach and/or dive the BG LOW
also, Friskies Pates are below 10% carbs here is a Drs approved food list, the third column contains the carb %sThank you for the information! Ill go through my options and see which would fit best for George
Got it. Ill give him a small meal then. Hes not really a treat cat haha hes picky with treats, some days he wants treats but most days he could care lessGreat if you can feed him a snack or small meal at +7 or + 8 we want to keep those level just right for dosing time, 3-4 small meals or snacks during the day keeps the insulin in check, is the same concept for humans with diabetes they also need to eat small meals during the day or they can crash
Continuation of Borg The Gorb #2It’s time for a new thread soon you ca title it tge same but with a #2 or continuation, I think George is finally stabilizing so keep the feeding schedules, so by shot time you can take that shot, you are doing an awesome job!
