I wasn't able to be home all day to test unfortunately, I did leave multiple food options down and he ate well (I spy on the camera pointing at the bowls lol). Since he was just barely under 200, I will hold this dose for at least 6 cycles, and reassess if he's staying <200 then we decrease by 0.25, right? I will get his PMPS test within the hour.

He has dental surgery/cleaning scheduled for 4/16 and the vet said to give him 1 tablespoon of food and 1/2 his regular dose on the morning prior and move his shot time to 6am at the latest. That makes me nervous without more food on board, with all these dose changes and numbers all over the board. What does everyone more experienced think? They will be testing every 30-60 minutes during the procedure, more often if he is low. At $38/test... Has anyone ever offered their meter and strips to the vet? I'd even let them keep the whole dang thing and extra strips if it means more frequent testing and less $$. I know part of it is labor, but it takes less than 30 seconds, as he will be under anesthesia...

Nice little blue!

I'm sorry that they are charging so much for the tests. I think my vet charges for it too. It's ridiculous. I mean, the cost to them is a testing strip, which can't be more than one dollar, and like you said, it takes less than 30 seconds of labor. Urg.

I think Jude was given half his food, and I can't remember if he got the entire shot or half, but the vet would always move Jude to the last procedure of the day in order that the food was mostly out of his system by the time of the procedure.

It will be good to get the dental procedure behind you. Are they taking x-rays? People on the forum recommend this as it reveals any under the gum issues. It's an extra expense, I believe.

What time is your normal shot time and what time are you supposed to drop him off for the dental? I'm surprised you were asked to move the shot time up to 6AM unless he's to be dropped off early. For Neko, I was told half a dose in the morning (at regular PS time), and no more than 1/3 of her breakfast by 6AM. Which was 1.5 hours before AMPS for me. I also left some of her morning food with the dental clinic so they could feed her when she woke up.

You might want to play the actual dose you give a bit by what you see in the AM. One time when Neko was flirting with a reduction on her dose, she gave me a low AMPS and just got a token dose. Which turned out to be a good idea when I saw what number they'd tested her at before the anesthesia. BTW, it's likely the dental vet's clinic will be testing with the AT, they wouldn't want to use your human meter.

See where he is at the end of the six cycles, if he's seeing lower blues, you can hold the dose longer, up to 10 cycles.
