We're back to not eating great this morning. I usually wait until the afternoon to give mirataz doses, but gave it today at AMPS. I shouldn't have skipped yesterdays dose, but thought he would continue eating well all day. I'm hoping he responds to it well. Hopefully he doesn't drop too low, but I usually don't have a problem getting him to eat a bit of his MC food. Not sure what's going on with him ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Good job watching him so closely, Albert. Heโ€™s in great hands.
Good idea to add the Mirtazapine today. Hoping that makes the difference for him โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’—

Thank you โค๏ธ I'm hoping that fixes it. He responded really well to it the day I took him to the vet, eating verry well that night and the next morning. It just seems his appetite dropped off last night at PMPS. He doesn't seem nauseous or uncomfortable, just no appetite, eating small meals with more encouragement. I feel bad for skipping mirataz yesterday, but his appetite seemed so strong.

Hello Albert!
Great news! Hope she continue to eat! :bighug:
May I ask you if Xander was always a picky boy or his appetite changed lately?
Yes, unfortunately he's always been not very food motivated. Before diabetes when he was on kibble, I would have to remind him to eat a few times a day. With wet food its much more complicated because he's more picky about things like the freshness of the can, and he eats small meals (which is harder than kibble because its much less calorie-dense).

In late December/early January, he had a week where he ate less than usual and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. After a course of cerenia and mirataz he bounced back and has only needed a little drop of mirataz every couple of days to keep him eating well since then. I would say its been about 2 weeks where the mirataz wasn't working as well with the past 2 days being more difficult than usual.

The vet seems to think its likely his chronic pancreatitis. So far, he responds well to the meds (mirataz in particular). It just seems that he's going to need them everyday for a bit longer like he did back in January.

Glad to hear heโ€™s turning around after you were on it with the mirataz, but sorry that he wasnโ€™t able to last with skipping a day. Hope you get some answers about whatโ€™s happening and in the meantime, sending healing vines for a comfy tummy ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ

Thank you โค๏ธ

The vet seems to think its probably a pancreatitis flare and to treat it with the anti-nausea/mirataz. I'll continue that daily for a while to make sure he's stable and if anything changes reach out to the vet again. He's still responding to the meds so I think if I keep up the mirataz daily for a while it will get him over this hump.

A lack of appetite is often caused by a problem with bile acids. I find it the hard way with one of my cats, Papagalio who, few years ago, start to act not so interested in food.
That's why I asked if Xander were always not very food motivated or if this is a recent change. For Papagalio was a big change because she loved (and still loves) eating. She is really gourmand. But everything was fine and her lab tests too. I have try mirataz too. It worked for a time but not really. It seems that the test for bile acids is not a standard one. The cat has to be left without food from the previous night, a blood sample is collected, then she is fed at the vet's and then another sample is collected one hour after the meal and a third one two hours after the meal. If there is a problem, is treatable and Blanche's sister is now fine. I hope I didn't ovestep, probably you have all the tests done for Xander, is just that every time I hear that a cat doesn't want to eat for no apparent reason I though of that.
