Morning Lovelies …

Well the little monkey jumped slightly into the blue this morning… not much but ended a good run of perfect greens!
Back in the green by +4 thank goodness…
I wouldn’t mind but since all of the animals were being painful last night (one of my dogs sings opera during the night and my other cat- who is honestly about 5 times the weight of Arya wanted to play “let’s wrestle” with her so she was doing her screaming banshee impersonation at 2am) so I got up and fed her at 2am and then she chucks me a blue first thing!!!! Pffft!

Have a great day/evening…

She has been in mostly under 100 mg/dl since the PM cycle of Feb 19th with only a couple of preshots within meter variance of green. That makes it 14 cycles/1 week.

I would lean towards starting an OTJ trial from tomorrow, if she stays in the normal range of numbers today.
Thanks Bhooma, I guess I’m apprehensive. I don’t want to rush anything just to get to the finish line quicker. I am also going to book her in for a dental exam next week.

Hi Lisa Lady Arya is looking fab! I feel your pain on that blue this morning.. if you squint it's almost green.
Her AMPS has slowly been coming down, and she's had Nadir's in the 60's being green for the most part all week.

I think you could start an OTJ trial of she gives you a green at next PS.

Here are the instructions for a trial.

Start the trial on the next green pre shot.

If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. Please use the “OTJ Trial” drop down prefix on your subject line every day so we can closely monitor the trial. Your kitty may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Good luck with the trial!!!

No one is pushing you, Lisa. You take your time and listen to Arya. Several people on the forum have given their kitties a good amount of time in the greens before taking them into an OTJ trial (see @Karolina & Nestle and @Kat & Trixie). Maybe see how she's doing once she gets back to normal following the dental. Good luck with the decision!
Thanks Mary, no I know that I'm not being pushed, I just didn't want to sound like I'm trying to rush Arya myself. I appreciate everyone's input. Sometimes I read the sticky info on the issue and just need someone to talk to about it rather than trying to work it out myself. My beautiful big boy has got blood in his poop now.... I'm a bit worried he's been poisoned or eaten an animal that's been poisoned.

Thanks Gill.... that's brilliant, just the info I needed.... although the little spider monkey has tested low blue this morning.

Hope George is well....

Oh no!!! How terribly frightening! I hope your big boy is okay and that it's nothing as serious as poison. Keep us posted.
