Dose confusion

So, it feels like I can’t get the right dose for Buddy. It seems like 1.75 is too high but 1.5 is too low. We were getting good numbers with 1.75 and then we went away and made a plan to lower dose to 1.5 to keep him safe when he was going to be home alone all day. His pre shot numbers were all really high.

We went back to 1.75 when we got home and his numbers slowly improved over the week.

Today his amps was 7.9 but we decided to give him his full dose because we were going to be around all day and could monitor him. He had his snacks at +2 and +4 and his +6 number was 3.4.

So, do we stick with 1.75 unless he is below a certain number and then we drop it down to 1.5?

Would love for his greens to not be so green :)

But he had a 61 today. That is a safe number on your Contour meter. I must ask what he ate and when. I need to make sure he’s getting the important snacks.

Also, if you check an he is at 61, don’t stop testing. You need to check again in no more than one hour to make absolutely certain hos BG is not dropping.

His +2 snack was fancy feast salmon petite equivalent to half a can. His +4 treat was some cooked shredded chicken and 1/2 tablespoon of low carb dry. He bounced back up tonight to 18.3 (329).

I think this morning when he was at 142 I would have shot 1.5 units.

With the 61 today, he has earned a reduction down to 1.5 units. We have to try it for a few days. Cats insulin needs do change— some cats more frequently than others. We can always go back up.

So don’t worry about shooting 1.75 units tonight. He’s high enough. Hopefully just a little bit higher because of the green today. Maybe it won’t be long lasting.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Buddy is going to Buddy. I may shoot fat 1.5s. We just saw such sky high numbers with 1.5. He’s confusing.
