We went to an adoption event today and Ember got a lot of attention, as usual. She's got such unique markings! I actually met three different people with diabetic cats today! One couple applied to adopt one of our other kitties. Their boy is in remission and they didn't want to take on another diabetic cat but offered to come over and test and shoot for Ember if I ever need it! 😻 So sweet! We were comparing spreadsheets. They're on an unrelated facebook group but it sounds pretty similar to this group. Another lady I talked to never tests her kitty. 😬 She said he's been doing fine. (But how can she know?!?!) She said she'd ask her her husband how he'd feel about a second diabetic cat but I would never adopt to someone who's not going to test. A third lady was talking about her diabetic cat and she said she gives him metformin. She said she gives it to him every morning. I had never even heard of that being an option for cats! It was interesting (and unusual) to see such a wide range of people with diabetic cats and the different ways they handle it.

Great connection with the person who could help you with Ember if you need it!! I haven't heard of Metformin being given to cats either. Is Metformin like Bexacat, etc.? And I'm like you; I wouldn't want someone who doesn't test to have sweet Ember. I'm going to put Ember in my thoughts and feeble-and-probably-not-too-effective prayers that just the right adopter will come along for her. Sweet girl deserves a permanent home as good as the one you're giving her. 💚

Awwwww. 🩷 Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers for sweet Ember! She is truly an amazing, wonderful cat and deserves the absolute best.
I had only ever heard of metformin for people. I googled it and read it can be used in cats, but it's only 20% as effective as insulin. (Who knows how accurate google is, but I figured if it was actually a good option, people here on FDMB would recommend it sometimes, so we would have heard of it.)

You work so hard for Ember - it's inspiring to see! 💖

As for that non-tester ... I truly hope it doesn't come back to bite her and her cat, sigh. I know it can work out okay, at least for awhile, because when Gen was originally diagnosed in 2021 and reacted so badly to home testing, we did without except for at vet visits. (Which we had fairly frequently, and I hope this person does too!) We were so lucky, though, and Gen went into remission so fast. I can't imagine risking that now. I guess if her cat is really stable, even if he doesn't go into remission, it could work for a good while, but all health situations eventually change!
