Last night I caught Bell falling rather sharply and started adding MC since PMPS +2.5. She continued to drop but I thought I had smoothed out her drop after that +6.5 and went to bed. Well, she was 48 at shot time in the morning. I stalled for about 20 minutes without food and got her at 55. I then decided to try and drain her depot and did a BCS of 3 units. My thought behind this was that I was feeding carbs from an early point in the cycle last night and she still got below 50, which indicates that this dose is too strong. She usually responds pretty actively to adding carbs. I didn't want to be messing around with a too large of depot with work.

So my question is: what should I shoot tonight? I think I should reduce, since last night felt too strong. But this was a bounce break cycle, which Bell has a tendency to drop lower/more aggressively on. I'm guessing she'll bounce on this BCS today. My gut is just go down to 5 units, since she failed that same reduction about a week ago. Thanks for the help!

Tried to tuck her in today but she wasn't having it

Whoa! A lime at PS is always so scary. Has always made me wonder what was happening just before, but we can’t be awake at all hours. I probably would’ve done the same with the BCS.

Not one able to give advice but I guess that lime is technically 6 cycles after the last one, so it’s not like a double dip reduction. Also, not sure if you’re following the no reductions with 40-50 since Bell has had FD for over a year (that’s where Binx and I are). Ultimately though, if the reduction fails, you can always go up and you know Bell best.

Good luck with the decision, sorry for the unhelpful comments 🫣🤗

Oh no, thank you for the input! I’m a little bit in new territory here. I was following the “3 under 50 on separate days” to reduce. But recently Bell had a potential hypo episode when her BG was around 50, which scared me.

So based on some feedback, I’m trying to be more proactive with adding higher carbs, which I was only doing before once she dropped below 50. The reason I’m considering a reduction here, even if she hasn’t met the 3 lime criteria, is because of that potential hypo and also the fact that she lime’d this morning with significant carbs on board.

Makes total sense! That's good context and very reasonable - a hypo episode is scary on it's own but then to have it happen when you're not even really expecting, in a green, even more so! It's understandable that you want to be cautious and with all the greens Bell has been surfing in (which is great), you're riding the line more too. Better to be a little higher than too low, right?

Hi Seth, I agree it's best to be cautious, especially given her recent hypo episode and her wobbliness, etc.
As Briana mentioned, you can always go back up.

I will be curious what advice you get on all of this!
Have a safe day, Bell is so lucky to have such an attentive Dad! 🌊 💕 🏄‍♀️

Oh thanks Kat, I’ll try that one! I bought some weruva chicken ones to try awhile back and they looked like real shredded chicken. Off course Bell wouldn’t eat them

I think I played this one mostly right. Fed higher carbs early last night when a saw a sharp drop. Then the BCS this morning, which I’m super glad I did. There does seem to be someone unusual for Bell going on, so I think your suspicion of the IAA breaking up a bit is spot on

+9.5 of 121. If anyone has recommendations on what to shoot tonight, that would be appreciated. She’s not zooming up as fast as I would have thought, but we’ll see where she is at shot time. For sure thinking a reduction after that 39, but not sure if I should do 5 units or 4.75 units.

4.75 units. You were 4 cycles on 5.25, then did a BCS and still got to under 40. Always easier to go back up.

The depot is strong with this one. Wouldn't be surprised if she shows a little action tonight. Behave Bell! Prove me wrong.

For HC, Neko loved the Grandma's Chicken Soup, but it sent her soaring. I did some of the Cats in the Kitchen pouches after that, more like 17%. Of course, she never met a food she didn't like. You can always add a drop of karo, when under 40, which is what I did.

Appreciate it, Wendy. 4.75 it is! Not sure my heart can take another cycle like this one. I think that was my first BCS outside of dentals. Picked the right cycle for it. Yeesh.

Yeah the 15% today did the job just fine and I can always add some syrup to it if need be. Would like her to transition to some better food, so I may retry some weruva.

The details of this are so beyond me at this point, but I wanted to send sympathies for the scary stuff and kudos for how well you handled it all! (Bell, seriously, I know you're spooky and everything, but try to go easy on your poor dad's heart!)

Er, also ... what's a BCS?

Thank you so much, Allie.

I believe BCS is a Big Chickensh:spam:t Shot, where you shoot a partial dose to drain the depot in cases where it’s too strong.

I picked the right day to be a chicken.

Wendy, Bell is looking to prove you wrong (typical teenager).

I almost considered that tip you gave me a few weeks back where if I’m sure she’s bouncing, to shoot just 1 more full dose before reducing. Curious to your thoughts if that would have been a good idea tonight. Ultimately, I decided that since this cycle was so unusual for Bell, it wasn’t the time to experiment.

Good call. I wouldn't have shot through the bounce today, not with a 39 in today's cycle telling you the depot is still very much in charge. The 337 is a bit of an artificial number due to the BCS. With a BCS, the depot can still control what happens in the first part of the cycle, but you typically see them zoom up the second half. Curious to see what she does tonight.
